I have had awful problems logging into Zwift from my laptop, so i have now bought an Apple TV box and computer monitor. logging into Zwift is now very much faster.
However, i am having trouble with establishing a Bluetooth connection between a Tacx Flux S and Apple TV.
I'm pretty sure the trainer is not connected to any other device. It has a blue light to show it's connected to something, and that is off.
However, I have been through any app on my phone that might connect with it, such as Wahoo Systm, Tacx, the Zwift Companion, and have shut these down. I even turned my phone's Bluetooth off.
On the Apple TV i have gone to settings, to Bluetooth. It is searching (has found the neighbour's Sky Q thing) but neither my Tacx trainer nor my HRM.
I have seen a video that suggests that the pairing screen of Zwift ought to have an option at top left to pair via Apple TV. It does not. It only offers me the option of pairing through the companion app.
It therefore seems that the Apple TV box isn't finding bluetooth devices.
I can connect the Flux to my phone, via Bluetooth. It connects to the Tacx app very easily.
The Firmware on bpth the Flux and Apple TV are both up to date.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Thanks.
A Bluetooth or ANT+ dongle on a USB extension lead?
The connected trainer doesn't show up as a connected device on the Apple TV. When you log in to Zwift on the Apple TV it should appear as a controllable device. Don't start the companion app on your phone (if you're using the app) until after the Zwift app on Apple TV has connected.
Zwift has an option on the top left of the main screen to pair via bluetooth or the companion app. I think bluetooth is the default.
This might help, but as above you front need to pair it to the Apple TV before launching zwift.
Is the Bluetooth icon pulsing as in the video?
And make sure you've removed the devices from the companion app.
Feed - I think that is it. Thank you very much.
Like Tallpaul, i thought i had to connect to Apple TV before opening Zwift, but it seems that's impossible. The trainer will only connect to Apple TV through the Zwift pairing screen.
So I opened Zwift without first connecting to Apple TV, and Zwift then allowed me to connect to the trainer and HRM.
I'm trying it properly in an hour or so so hopefully it'll work then too.
My post meant to say you 'don't' need to pair it to the Apple TV... Stupid autocorrect!
You'll find if you put on the HRM strap and turn on the trainer before opening zwift it'll find everything within a few seconds, it's really rather good.
Don't forget that Apple TV only accepts 3 Bluetooth connections, one of which is the remote
BM - has got an ATV for this purpose.
My old iPad eventually got too slow for Zwift, so I replaced it with an Apple TV last month. I used Zwift Companion on my phone at first, but had problems with the connection dropping out. I ended up buying a 4iii heart rate monitor that connects to all channels of my turbo and rebroadcasts them, along with my heart rate, to the Apple TV. It gets round the bluetooth connection restrictions and has worked seamlessly from the start.
I'm not certain I needed it, but it works so well I don't mind - highly recommended.
