That was some effort Neil. I enjoyed Oopnorth's encouraging words..'just get to this bit...':) I don't know about you but I seem to start slow and ride into these morning rides.

That was a tough one...felt find going into the second hill but legs went coming to halfway up...thanks to Phil for giving me his wheel and dragging me up...at times I wanted to slow right down but his goddam wheel kept teasing me 🤣🤣🙈

It's a tough route but feels good once done...legs are aching now. A cooked breakfast is sorting me out.

Thanks all...next week it needs more rolling hills haha.

Wouldn’t have been to bad if I hadn’t done the 100km yesterday and chain dropping of twice, out for a nice 3-4 mile walk with the mrs now.

Enjoyed that this morning, went on and did an extra bit on the Tempus Fugit route.

I am around next weekend so would be up for a Sunday Hills, I've not done Ven-Top but that isn't really rolling hills should mix up harder rides and some nice more rolling rides, today's was quite tough, felt better on the second climb than the first probably as I was a bit overspeed on the first and had to back out of maintaining that to ensure I got the ride done.

If we want an a more rolling Sunday Hills maybe the Petit Boucle decent distance not to much climbing.

Ventoux isn't a group ride route is it?:) Petit Boucle sounds good to me.

I'm ok with something more rolling like France or a dust in the wind type ride to jungle etc.

Probably a good idea to do alternate weeks on the tougher routes.

We've Horseman on the 7th so a rolling one next week would be good 🙂

Ventoux could be a group ride just might be lacking in banter! 🙂

I'm still unsure about that horseman route...think today showed my limitations Hahaha

An Alpe after a radio tower, plus volcano and hilly....my legs shake thinking about it 🤣🤣🤣

I think you'd be surprised oopnorth of what you could achieve.

My plan is to complete it and to do that, I'll take couple days rest before it, back off the pace on the climbs (so slower than today), fuel regularly over the ride. Done on tired legs it will be a struggle for sure.

I didn’t ride today oopnorth but guessing you attacked the climbs like we normally do which won’t leave much for the other climbs.

You will be fine and we need to go back to the radio tower to pick up the pork pies that were left up there last time!

Think the issue for me is trying to keep up with others who are much faster...obviously not keep up but try to go as quick as I can so the gap ain't too big once we hit the top. With the horseman I would probably just have to take my own pace and complete when I do...not worry too much about keeping with the group.

Like you say Forge, it's all in the preparation...rest, fuel, take it steady, etc.

I think I'll just have a go and see how I get on. I was impressed with Neil this morning to overcome his doubts and get up the hill again. A lot of it is mental.

A lot of it is mental I do get a bit of doubt before a big ride with big climbs, but once you are in it and on the way with good prep then all is well.

If we do try and stick together and help each other on the climbs it will be fine, I also try and keep up with the faster riders which this morning was a bit detrimental in the later part of the first climb, I did my pace on the second and that was more comfortable, but I don't mind waiting at the tops (as long as I remember and don't start rolling down !!) that's what a social group ride should be about.

I won’t be going fast on that route oopnorth and we are near enough the same weight/ftp so pace should be similar. You will need a decent breakfast though, some coffee and some food throughout!

Porridge power! 🤣

Can't be much worse than quatch quest, that already takes in the 2 worse hills and we did that. Hilly and volcano ain't too hard. It will be about pacing.

There were some fast lads out this morning Oopnorth and you were quick out the blocks. Think negative splits and you'll be fine. Happy to ride more as a group on the climbs. Its not that tough if you pace it.

Cheers oopnorth I’ll give it a go my problem is normally set of to fast what about keeping at a set watts till the climbs the let the stronger go and meet up at the top. The only thing to watch is you give the slow climbers anothe of a breather before we set off down hill otherwise they struggle to recover.

I'm not about much this week due to half term and going out for long days with the family.

Not sure about Sunday for the hills ride, I should be there but don't want to commit in case, so can someone else organise this weeks ride?

I'm happy to stick one in for Sunday this week. Not been on Zwift [edit: barely been on a bike to be honest] in a few weeks so really need to get my act together before I put on a shed load of weight. Was there any particular route folk had in mind? I'm guessing something a bit more gentle before next weekend...

I'd offered up Petit Boucle as an option for this weekend ahead of the big one on the 7th 🙂

Well that looks like a suitably flat practice for next weekend's "well punctuated flat route"

I guess those sausages are sharper than you are then! All the better for hammering into lawns I suppose.

No problem at all, I'll have a think on a route - petit boucle is a bit too flat I think.

Other options of not too big hills, could be a dust in the wind type ride...depends if anyone can be bothered with a jungle circuit...

I'm happy whatever. Not able to zwift most of this week so the weekend will maybe be my only opportunity.

Some options then - feel free to vote or comment I might seem to pay attention or I might ignore you, depends if you agree with me obviously.

Trying to avoid things on next weeks horror show...

New York everything bagel. I've not done it, new York is horrible. The glass climb is horrible but as a route its fairly short which means a lie in or brownie points, it's got enough up and down to feel like Sunday hills at least. About 1.15hr to 1.30 I'd expect

Mountain 8. basically up and down the epic in reverse. we don't do the reverse next week. It's short, I'd guess 1.30 ish.

London triple loops. Long flat drag, leith hill, box hill, home. I've not got the badge. Longer than the other two in distance but the big lump of flat will speed it up so similar time wise.

Tire bouchon or petit boucle. Lots of flat twice up the petit kom. I've not ridden either though I can't say I'm enamored with the bits France routes I've ridden. Time wise I guess 1.45hr to 2hr.

Or, for something completely different for a Sunday morning...

Keep it short, set the timer to 1hr (maybe 1.15?) douce France social pace but go for the sprints then regroup. Starts on the rollers, aqueduct and then It's about as flat as can be. It's got 3 sprints in 24k so should see 4 or even 5 sprints over the hour.

^^^Well there's a few things making me think new York.
1)it's awful so I'm not riding it on my own.
2)it's awful so once I've got the badge I'm never going back.
3) once the rioting kicks off on November 4th it'll need completly redesign to look like Escape from New York instead.

New York isn’t a great world is it..I did a quick ride there last week, so glad I use a Fulgaz for some outdoor Virtual ride 4K niceness to balance the graphic worlds...

Anyhow I’d do any of those, pref probably Mountain 8 or oddly the everything bagel as not done it or at least don’t think I have, I am sure we did London Loop or similar a couple weeks back or similar.

Twere pretzel on the 4th of October I think. That said the routes do not look overly distinct.

Right then executive decision :

Tire bouchon it is, I'll put it on for an 8am start?

Decided on the following basis...

Robbo has us down for NY on Tuesday. No one needs that twice in a week.
Mountain 8 is too much a single up and down for a social ride I reckon.
London is too similar to a recent ride.
PD suggested petit boucle and I like to be contrary.
Flat with sprints sounds like a good reward week for after Horsemen.

I might wake up early tomorrow and join in on the 8am ride.
I rode the four horsemen route yesterday. Took me around 5hrs (6hrs with stops) including an extra 10km to make sure I completed 100km in one ride. Around 80 minutes for me to get to the top of the alpe . Pretty close to what it took me in real life.

I tried the Alpe this morning but kept having connection issues. Then 2 hairpins from the top I think I cooked my trainer, lost all connection and it was very hot to the touch and refused to reconnect. 😕 I left it for 15mins unplugged and it started flashing green and transmitting again. I'd been trying to hold 300w for a few hairpins.
I'll hopefully be joining you all tomorrow with no connection issues.

I have been considering an everesting attempt on the turbo but reading up on it I don’t think I am going to as overheating can be an issue when riding that long. In normal circumstances it might not be an issue but I don’t want to risk frying my trainer in December and having nothing to do for the rest of the winter!

If you are over 75kg apparently they have to apply the brakes (or magnets) continuously to simulate the hill climbing sensation so the heavier you are the more it has to apply them and the hotter it will get.

My trainer was pretty warm on the four horsemen ride. I was wondering if it was worth un plugging it when I took my breaks to let it cool a little. I want sure if this would screw up the zwift session though?
I might try this idea on a short route later. I'll use an infrared thermometer to see how much the temp drops.

Higher trainer difficulty adds more load to the trainer as well so you can reduce the trainer difficulty as well if it becomes an issue. One of the issues why I have scrapped the everesting is that you have to run at 100% trainer difficulty.

I normally run mine at about 80% so might knock it back a bit. Been a while since I looked at the settings though so I may have left it at 100%

Haha. Just a couple of beers here so should be fine.

Btw for the four horsemen I put a 7.30 start as I though my we said we were starting a bit earlier due to the time to complete the course. Does that work for people? 7 seems a bit earlier but I did the first two hills on an easy spin in 40 mins today so we would be hitting the two serious hills just after 8 hopefully.
