had a nice 15 mile local loop this afternoon to finish the year with.
Happy New Year and keep the pedals turning for 2012 ๐
I've just come back from a two and a half hour ride on my crosser with my eight month old son in the Chariot trailer. I get good boy points from the gf, my son gets to sleep and I get some strength training in!
Have a happy new year! I might go down the road a bit later and watch the fireworks of a different kind at the traditional fight between the local punks and the police! ๐
Bet that was at Mammoth
yep indeedy where you one of the lads with the lynskey helix jobbo?
I did 1.7miles untill my knee started hurting again! Only been like this for 6 days now and am feeling like the walls are closing in on me.
Im praying that my knee gets better as looking forward to racing 2012....
Is that bothy haunted, face at the window and orbs!!!
No ride today setting sons bike up, Christmas present on local trails. Armed with allen keys and labrador!!
Heading out over the Pentland hills tonight - leaving at about 10pm and will be perfectly located to watch the fireworks go off over Edinburgh at midnight. Just me, my fiancee and a small bottle of champagne (oh, and two very muddy bikes...) 8)
If its last ride that finishes in 2011 - that was yesterday. A 40+ miler in the Pentlands as training for next weeks puffer.
A couple of hours on the road bike around watership down for me. All a bit wet and windy but new mudguards are ace!
Loop around Bath, first Lansdown and back via Charmy Down. Muddy like hell. All my clothes are now dripping on the kitchen floor. Must warn the cat.
Earlier today 37 miles along some very muddy former railway lines in Derbyshire ๐
Llandegla with a couple of friends , finished with a cake and a brew .. nice day ๐
yep indeedy where you one of the lads with the lynskey helix jobbo?
Yup,mate was on the Lynskey & I was on the proper sized wheeled MTB ๐
I was on the proper sized wheeled MTB
my god a proper real life actual mountain biker rather than some sort of attention seeking silly fad whore. I thought you lot had all died out ๐
14 of us from the local mtb club went out on the 28th and did a 50km ride in the Brecon beacons , very very muddy , pub stop halfway round for food and drink and bring our fingers and toes back to life in front of a log fire.
Down to Sandbanks ferry and back on the Langster. Flask of coffee on a deserted Boscombe pier.
Yes, I should have gone off road but I didn't want to get my new bargain Dare2Be jacket muddy. ๐ณ
Lucky people! My last ride of 2011 was in mid-November. Not likely to be out for another month or so either. Bad year for biking for me, so roll on 2012!
just rode over to my folks the same way you went Sue. There were some *whispers* roadies having a natter on Pabo Lane, I gave 'em a salute ๐
and I'm not going back to work this year ever again, ever. Stuff 'em.
Sent off 2011 with a 18 mile ride in the mudfest of the Clwyds. Great fun
Managed a pootle on Salisbury Plain and the last couple of miles saw some drizzly rain.
So nice to be out even though it wasn't 'proper' mountain biking. I did ride my singlespeed though. 8)
Only saw one other mtb'er too.
Unfortunately a DNF in Round 11 of NDCXL at Thornbridge today.
Snapped rear mech hanger at end of first lap. Hey Ho!!
Absolute Disaaarster Daarling!....
Past caring now as made an early start on the vino and looking forward to New Year Festivities.
Have a good one all.
My last ride of the year will be a short one with Mrs BigJohn into Stafford (to say HNY to BigJohn Jr who's working behind the bar at the Lord Nelson)then over to the Railway Inn for the evening's entertainment featuring an all-vinyl disco (they don't own a mic - bliss).
My first ride of 2012 will be a drunken wobble home.
Followed by a morning ride over Cannock Chase at 9:30 with my usual riding buddies.
Steady pedal round GT. First ride out in abou 8 weeks due to some lousy chest infection. It did not kill me so I must be stronger! ๐
Rode from Ambleside to kentmere, over garburn, down Jenkins Crag and back to Ambleside. Was very very wet and wild
Few miles with the kids this afternoon. Done a fair bit this year, most of it ss 29er enabled. More running than riding this festive season, will be out at 6:30 in the morning for my usual 4.5 mile loop.
I popped down to Tonbridge from Southborough via the Weald Way to get some cotton wool balls for my beautiful new daughter's chapped buttocks.
Well worth it. She's very very lovely.
i did this:

am feeling very pleased with myself!
the best thing is that i have to go there again on monday and so i thinks i'll do another doozy of a trail.
happy new year folks.
MBO on Cannock Chase today. Won the prize for muddiest finisher, and also for overall winner (the two are probably connected) - my first prizes this year IIRC. Feeling very smug.
Turbo in garage for an hour - proper
Muddy 16 miles around Kingswear and Churston in South Devon, happy New year all. Bring on the Port.
Somehow got it into my head that the Hub at Glentress was having it's last weekend today (maybe I dreamt it). Drove up from Newcastle at 7 am with 2 semi-reluctant mountain bikers, and me with my now fixed again hand (after a 4 month lay off after being hit by a car) to say goodbye and end the year on a bit of a high.
Turns out none of us was that reluctant at all: great day, reasonable weather for December, red and blue loops at pace. Turns out new cafe has great food and excellent facilities. And getting to have a warm shower before drive home was awesome. Sorry to see the Hub boarded up but that's life... Everything changes.
There is however, no way that I am going to last until midnight.
My last ride of the year was a night ride t'other night - took me to 2217 miles for the year.
Planning on a local ride in the morning.
Ended the year nicely with a ride up snowdon this morning. A week of bad food has certainly taken its toll but was a brilliant descent. Can't wait to go back again:)
4h trek over the local hills finding as much mud as possible...Got home covered and smiling like a five year old, roll on 2012. ๐
A few hours out this morning with some mates I don't get to ride with that often, plenty of laughs and MTFU moments, resulting in a couple of epic fails, one of which required stitches, good times, Happy New Year all!

A good deal of it on the road.
Cruelly cut short when the gear cable to my Alfine hub popped out on a short, steep technical climb and wouldn't go back in. Fit and forget my hole.
Had to spin most of the way home on Tarmac at an insane cadence.
Great ride up until that point though - reminded me of my formative years mountain biking on the outskirts of Glasgow, what with all the gloop and the mist.
