Just a reminder, 10pm tonight.

Best to be hovering over your keyboard if you are a solo because that category usually fill within minutes.

You have been warned. 🙂

Maybe not.

I've never paid anything like that for a fare to London, and the flight is much shorter than 7 hours!

You trying to deter button hovering? 🙂

(Flybe are under 2 hours and about £70 single at the moment.)

Or you could not do the most expensive option and fly via 2 different countries, and just go direct for £48 round trip.

But that wouldn't be very STW, would it? 😉

I'd eyed this up but no way I could do it solo. How do the teams work, do you just take it in turns?

I would imagine teams is pretty much a free for all. Each rider prob has to complete 2 laps , the rest can be done by other nutters.

Why o why am i reading this thread ? ?

New category tis year too! Sounds like copious beer should be taken if in this category 🙂

We have a special category this 10th Anniversary year - for one year only (probably) - Ten Teams of Ten riders paying £10 each. The aim of this is to give people who have always wanted to enter the Puffer but felt that doing it as a Quad/Pair or Solo was too daunting a way to get involved. The same rules apply as to the other categories - i.e. only one rider on the course at a time - with the additional stipulation that 10 different riders must complete at least one lap each. To make the admin manageable the team entry will cost £100 to the first name on the list but you can enter as many TBC's as necessary while you gather your team together - each team will only be allowed 2 vehicles on site at any one time and there will be a specific parking area with easy access for the Teams of Ten - Fancy dress is optional?

I think after every lap there is a brawl, and the loser goes out.

The teams of ten sounds a hoot.

Really fancy a crack at this - can't see me getting any kind of team together and I ain't doing it solo.

Anyone fancy a STW randoms team of 10 with a couple of kegs of finest for pre, during & post ride motivation...?

Waited for an hour to enter, hit refresh at 10pm on the dot as it changed, session end crashed and by the time I got back in I was on the waiting list.

Bit nerve-wracking that. Hit refresh on the stroke of 10pm, skipped all the hoodie options, pressed next and the bloody session crashed! Refreshed and it came back and paid and got in as a soloist. Phew!

Not had an email yet though. I presume if the SiEntries site says you're in then you're in?

If it's any help, I've done it on 2 occasions when I've been in the intensive care (ambulance job) and then the cardiac ward 4 to 5 weeks previously. It just makes it a wee bit tougher, but be sensible and ride easy.

Best to ask your doc.

Just tell her Ranulph Fiennes ran seven marathons on seven continents four months after a heart attack.

He also cut his fingers off with a jig saw in his shed.

Fingers crossed the organisers will reduce the number of quads / teams of 10 to let the oversubscribed categories have more places...

Would also be good if the waiting list could be published as I don't fancy doing loafs of training if there's no chance of a place.

Are any of the organisers on here / any chance of making the list visible??

Well this is a good start to my 'puffer training. I'm currently sitting at home looking out the window at the strengthening wind and darkening clouds and I'm thinking I shouldn't go for a ride because it looks too cold. Oh well. I guess I've got about 9 weeks to MTFU and get used to the idea.

Don't go for a ride, that's wasted effort.

This is how to train for the Puffer:

Fill a bag with your warmest stuff
Put on your skimpiest cycling outfit
Climb to the top of the highest exposed windy hill in your neigbourhood, preferably while it's sleeting
Sit down beside your bag of warm stuff and ignore it.
Continually repeat the mantra "This is stupid, I could stop right now"
Do this until you can bear it no more.
Look at your warm gear sitting in its bag.
Ignore it, repeat the mantra.
Once you can stay awake until dawn doing this, you're ready for the 'Puffer. 🙂

They just do it like anyone else. I think they have introduced some age limits in the last few years, or parental consent restrictions, but there are no age classes.

My daughter did it solo on a singlespeed when she had just turned 13, and another twice, so they are not against young people doing it.
