You know the drill.
6pm Shoppe
7pm Bonaly Shop.
Route will once again be made up on the spot - maybe a reverse of last week? That wee stoney descent might make for an interesting climb...
See you there. A few new faces are coming too which is nice!
When are you going to have an away day trip?
soon.
transport is the issue....
had planned on getting you to play host actually.
I'd pay good money to see you get up that climb ๐ Better to go further towards Black Hill and take a left up a short steep bit which soon levels out and takes you to the descent to Bavelaw.
I'll come.
Speaking of away days, my ideas for such over the coming weeks;
DumYat Hill
Ben Cleugh
Gypsy Glen (abridged)
East Lothian Singletrack (courtesy of Househusband or Coastkid's guiding).
Book em in, transport will materialise (+ sell me a bike rack cheap and you have a guaranteed space [cheap bike rack optional]).
How much you paying snakehips? (<thats your new nickname btw)
I'll come.
ALL THE TIME?
ALL THE TIME?
Yup, faster than an Ethiopian... 8)
(And plenty of s'track in Midlothian, too.)
Be trying to make it, new forx to test innit!
What motor you got Jim? I have a little used strap-on that I need to get shot of, dead cheap...
A rack that straps to the boot of hatch-back type cars, I mean (missus)
Have i mentioned the awesome Bivvy Weekend i have planned with the man they call Ant?
It will be a fun time.
I'll probably be riding some sweet trails in Midlothian and probably have them all to myself ๐ Then again I may jump in the van and hotfoot it to Bonaly. It's non stop excitement round my way.
I'll put myself down as a "probably definite". I'll be pushing up that stony descent though, same as the rest of ye. ๐

Wot he said
Should be to join you all. Where is the meeting point at Bonaly?
Hi Alan
It is the Bonaly General Store on the Bonaly Road, the one that comes up from Woodhall Road to the flyover on the bypass.
Centre of that image - junction of Bonaly Avenue.
im packing for FT william tomorrow night...heading up thursday affy but get out a wednesday evening soon, also get you lot a ride around east lothian from east fortune,2.5 hours,25 miles, lots of horses to shoot ๐
drier the better for it,any wednesday that suits you lot ๐ฎ
Planning on coming along for this - will be my first post-baby ride ๐ Not sure if my bike still works though - will find out tomorrow!
If it's not raining I'll be there again. Nico will not make it due to work, might bring another mate or even two, their OH's permitting.
But got one question to You Mark. I've got a new headset to fit to my nrs as the old one is playing up. Would it be possible and how much biscuits/beer/haribo (apart from normal fitting charge) do I need to bring to have it done on the same day to have the bike up and running for the ride (I'll undo all the bolts etc to make it quicker)? What would be the best time to pop in the shop if that's doable?
Hi guys, whats the level of fitness like in the group? Wouldnt mind even coming along to get a pointer of the trails that are there, although Im so unfit wouldnt keep up with most of you regulars.
I have just been in Ballater for a piece of work.. staying in a hostel called Habitat.... fancy a weekend away...? Have big black van, will travel.... ? ? ?
scottyjohn - Regardless of what they all claim on here, you can expect the fast guys to zoom off into the distance. Stop. Wait for you to catch up. Then immediately zoom off again. Wait until I'm on a ride - I hold them back a bit ๐
Seriously, go along and don't worry. As long as the ride organzer hasn't planned a long one, there'll be plenty of stops along the way.
And you won't be far behind Mark eh?
Hope to see you lot at Bonaly shops.

We have to stop every 20-30 seconds to fix punctures, argue about the route, take photos or eat haribos anyway (never more than one at a time, it's the law that you can't take advantage of someone else faffing to do your own faffing, you must wait until they're finished then ride at least another 30 feet before you stop and take your own bike apart ) so you won't be left behind
Aha! I may drop long then, always wondered whats up in them hills! I work in Livingston, so could be there for the 7pm at Bonaly. Might see you guys there......
Hey Mieszko - rammed at the moment in the workshop. What about Tuesday onwards... that work for you?
We can have it in and out in a jiffy.
It'll have to be sometime in 2 weeks then as I'm flying off to see my OH to Warsaw on Tuesday. That means two things:
1. Clicking headset on tomorrows ride (no major issue, it still works and I can blame it for slowing me down rather than the lack of fitness ๐ )
2. Once I'm back I'll have some biscuits/sweets from my OH's mum and will bring You some kabanos to try out (and possibly share with staff from TBC) ๐
So if You can put me down on the waiting list sometime after the 14th of June that would be perfect, can be any time during the week.
Off to bed. Hopefully see You all tomorrow.
Meh - I've no chance this Wednesday either. One day ...
Weather looks hot Hot HOT for tomorrow - if to be believed.
Have fun in Warsaw. If you can get those wee Bounty style choc and coconut bars we will be mates for ever and ever and ever.

I'll be holding the group back in druidh's absence. Come along so I've got someone to talk to way at the back. 8)
Mark not a problem. Will have plenty of space in my rucksack so can bring so much of the stuff it no longer be Your favourite ๐
Just need more details on it maybe the name or how it looks like.
Is this the thing You're after? Only sweets that come close to Your description. Coconut and chocolate filling in dark chocolate cover. It's called Tiki Taki ๐

If this is it than it shouldn't be a problem to get You a nice supply. If that's not it than You need to give me more details on what to look for.
Regarding the ride and the pace. It can be pretty quick on the climbs as there are always quick riders. BUT it's a social ride and everyone rides within their abilities/fitness. No one is being left behind and there was always people waiting for me after the descents as I'm really bad at this aspect of riding. ๐ I enjoy every ride as it not only shows new trails in the Pentlands but also gives me a chance to challenge my fear of doing more difficult descents and also improve my fitness by trying to keep up with some guys on the climbs. All in good 2-3hrs of riding.
They look just the ticket! Thanks!
I'm not going to make this one - I have to work ๐ Someone else will have to take up my position at the back.
As for worrying about being fit enough to keep up - fack 'em! Its supposed to be a social ride - anyone too fast can either wait at the top or do the climbs twice!
Aye, count me in.
I'll be at the Bonaly shop for 7pm and toiling at the back of the Pentland peloton thereafter ๐
cheers,
alasdair
Going by the speed I cycled in to work at this morning I'll probably be at the back too ... bike creaking lots but seems to work ๐
Sorry can't make it tonight ๐ wife is out with a 'work thing' so i'm looking after kids. Maybe next week and def' for the bivvy trip.
We have a new recruit - a Rozzer n everyfink!
See you all later.
Jeremy, Ant - not good enough, must try harder etc ๐
one day i'll not be injured and able to make a ride. knowing my luck, it'll be wet, cold and dark by the time i've shifted all my injuries ๐
Who were that then?? With so many folk, it's hard speaking to everyone...a Rozzer
Good laugh tonight, + near perfect conditions. Ironic I should be one to suffer the dreaded pinch-flat... I likes my new forks though-but!
A couple of pics (as I definitely won't have time in the morning...)

Enjoy your weekend(s)
yes lots of fun ๐ especially that wee sheep track from castlelaw down to glencorse!
Heeeey, nice shot! Makes it look like I know what I'm doing.
Great ride, I've no idea how many times i've been up there but I've never ridden half of that route in that direction, and other bits I didn't even know were there. Spot on.
Couple more from me:

Very good conditions, lots of people, good trails not too dry but no mud. Another nice ride. I will miss next week's one though.
Great time guys. Looks like I need to keep working on those skills!
The rozzer was Tom. Turns out that it's his horse that sh**s outside my house every week! ๐
Ron
I'm surprised I missed a group of that size tonight, but the Pentlands were full of group rides - it seems Wednesday night is the new Saturday.
cheers folks, that was a great way to spend a Wednesday night. Trails all riding really well and the goat track was especially entertaining.
Alasdair
We might have to get some sort of 'permission slip' if we get 18 people out again eh.
Good to see some new people out in the group - we hope you will keep coming.
Next week... away game?
I'm oot tonight so hoping for some gid trails, like!
Blimey. Standing at the bottom of Castlelaw last night must have felt like being at Little Big Horn.
I won't make next weeks by the looks of things as I'll be dog-sitting.
But how about an away trip for the weeke after (16th June) before the Pentlands trail police get hold of us?
last night felt like Little Big Horn
Funny, I was just saying the exact same thing to jimmy earlier.
No that was big massive horn
Wasn't aware of all the horn going on but a great night never the less. The Goat Track in particular was a giggle. ๐
Should be good for next week. Cheers folks.
I'll need to make one of these rides , Was up there Monday and also just back from a 18 mile trek round there this morning . Conditions are great though came a cropper at the bottom of the nail trail (A muddy puddle that sucked in the front wheel and stopped it dead). Must have met at least a half dozen other bikers today and easily double that on Monday , some sociable some pretty miserable. Quick question is the road heading south from the Bavelaw area heading out towards nine mile burn worth a trek , Its looks like it goes on for a decent distance.
I'm up for joining one of these - is it a std Wed thing then ? (newbie).
Working in the Gyle so could always head direct to wherever if it's Pentlands.
I clocked 28 miles door to door last night if anyone is interested.
Great ride last night. Will try and make the next one.
A beautiful thing you've created there mark, must join you sometime.
You folks were fairly zipping down the Water of Leith last night. Too fast for my short legs to keep up on the singlespeed! I'll need to find a new job so I can join you all some time. Looks like I'll need to bring the gears though.
Note to self; try not to get a pinch flat in wind-less, midge infested sections in future...
