Hi,

Friend of mine just dropped me a line that he saw some NT guys doing "improvements" over Tilberthwaite.

I say keep on riding people, as in a few short years all the good bits will be sanitised, surfaced and accessible ๐Ÿ™

Cheers!

I.

Someone posted something about folks being out with clipboards a couple of weekends back. I take it this is the track over to Little Langdale?

There has been a big hoo-hah about the farmer at High Tilberthwaite giving up the tenancy because the track condition (blamed on 4x4s) makes it impossible to take feed up to his stock.

If this is the case, I can't see any need to 'improve' the Little Langdale side, and on the other side there are only a couple of short sections which might cause problems to a quadbike. As far as I can recall, they've been like that for years though.

I wonder if they are going to ban 4x4s on it? If not, they'll be back to square one pretty quickly.

Someone (I'm guessing council) seem to be rampantly improving accessibility by me too. Various bits of techy bedrock or fun singletrack have been covered over with gravel / widened. Only problem is I can't complain as officially they are footpaths...

@ferrals - you could always complain from the point of view of a walker or fell runner who prefers interesting and more natural paths to walk on and look at, rather than gravel tracks?

Update to this, rode across this yesterday. As I suspected, they have left the Little Langdale side untouched, but flattened two sections on the High Tilberthwaite side - particularly the bit nearest the top. I was descending so didn't have a close look at the 'improvements'. Shame as I normally do it S-N and like testing myself against the climb, but thankfully they've left the best descent in one piece.

Oh, and Kankku did their normal trick of refusing to slow down or wait even for a few seconds for a climbing rider to get through a narrow section. So I kept going, and exchanged some pithy comments with the guide.

Much as I generally support the right of 4x4s to use the track, the attitude of this particular operator makes me more sympathetic to those who are calling for a TRO.

Hierarchy of trail users which they've agreed to follow says they give way to bikes (and bikes to horses). They are kno88ers.

Sigh, missed that decent last time I was here. Could hardly ride it as they were in way for most of it.
