I'd be giving them a lowers service to see if that improved them (or revealed the problem)

85 psi sounds a lot, I have 55 psi in my lyriks

My Yari have been very similar, was planning a strip down & relube this weekend, me we needed with my pikes & I actually only rebuilt them a couple of months ago & my pikes were never a problem

Still better than stock, but I've put a luftkappe & importantly a novyparts damper which was a big improvement.

85PSI is both what the charts say and what gives me 20% sag. Suspension movement and support actually feels ok through travel, is only the stiction that bothers me

Yep, some grease up there can help too, could be dry out of the factory. Pressure charts are just the starting point though

Dry wiper seals feel awful.

Do a lower service (slacken lower bolts, hit with a mallet to free the shafts, remove bolts and drain oil, remove lowers, clean, clean and grease the wiper seals, soak the foam rings, new lower oil.

If you have a pair of circlip pliers you could pop out the air spring for a look, they normally have loads of grease but no harm checking.

I'm on 70psi at 90kg, 1 token.

Better damper & luftkappe means can run 30% sag & it's still not divey

My Yari was the best fork I’d had when I got it - but I’ve never run Fox (only Rockshox / marzocchi / RST). I’d say bomber z1’s we’re more plush at the start of the travel but overall the Yari smashes them.

Ive just stuck in a 2019 debonair air shaft and a charger 2 damper and so far they feel amazing. I suspect it the air shaft that’s made them so plush and willing to get moving. The charger should stop them spiking on big hits.

Mine came with 2 tokens already installed , I found them much better after removing both . Not the trendy thing to do perhaps but worked for me . OP are you getting full travel ? I found that I needed to run quite a bit less pressure than recommended by Rockshox .

go with what you feel is right. never went by any fork psi chart it's a start point but tune to suit you.

I bought a 150mm Yari last year and went straight to a Charger 2 damper before they were fitted to the bike but by all accounts the MoCo damper isn't bad. Never had an issue with stiction but to me they felt harsh and worse than my old Pikes with the original charger damper.

Following the bike radar setup guide, I added 2 more bottomless tokens to the existing 2 tokens, dropped the pressure by 6-8 psi, and made the rebound a smidgen quicker. This made a vast improvement.

If you know they are set up properly and after a lowers service, you still don't have any better results they'll probably need sending to a suspension specialist for a bushing size check.

Another vote for the Luftkappe. Also try more sag, I was at 25% on my pikes then I dropped another 5 psi and they felt lots better.

I run mine at 30% sag, needed a Lufftkappe to stop it being nightmare diving.

The spring side is really simple, just plastic and rubber seals that all want a nice bit of fork grease to run smoothly. Also the inside of the top seals want greasing too. Soak the foam ring and add 10ml of oil (I think) into the lowers and they’re very plush forks generally.

However, they still are not as good as my old Fox F120's - a bit of stiction and a bit divey or too firm seems to be 1psi apart...

My Yari are really rather plush. Fitted the 2019 debonair airshaft and a lowers service from new. Standard MoCo damper, 3 tokens, 65psi, 80kg.

I would certainly be doing a lowers service first.

I only mentioned the charts in the sense that they happened to coincide with the pressure I got for 20% sag.

Ok, service the lowers first then. Once I changed the air spring on my 34, should be even easier on the Yari. Any oil recommendation? Still have a lot of Fox Gold 20WT, can I use that?

Regarding fork setup, and answering to some of the posts:

- still using the 2 stock Tokens

- I'm 90kg with all the gear

- I'm not using full travel, not touching the last 15 or 20mm of travel. This happens because:

A) I tend to be quite smooth on the fork

B) If I reduce pressure it tends to be more divey and less supported on mid travel on step sections, which I don't like.

Any advice for a better setup is welcome. In any case, it seems to me the main issue is related to the stiction itself

I had decent amount of oil in my Yari, but the foam rings were still bone dry out of the box so as said that is your starting point. I used to use 15wt or RS Red Rum on the foam rings but RS suggest now suggest using the same stuff which is put in the lowers which isn't as thick.

Despite that I still get a lot of stiction when trying to set sag.  On the move everything  is fine though, especially after installing the amazing Luftkappe.

Any comments on using the Fox Gold 20WT for the lowers?

Sounds like it might be a bit heavy - I think the RS stuff is 10wt. Although it’s only in there for lubrication not damping or anything.

I think RS recommends 0W30 oil for the lowers.

Any more opinions on using the Fox oil?

So today I went ahead and serviced the lowers.

Surprise:

- oil in left (spring) leg was likely to be under the specified 10ml

- very little oil in right (damper) leg

- foam rings were dryish

- not a generous amount of grease under the dust wipers

Quite disappointed with RockShox, it's clear they don't have their assembly process under control. This could be a case for a warranty claim.

Anyway, gave it the proper treatment and the difference is like night and day.

I don’t think you’re the first person to find your new RS forks a bit on the dry side. I didn’t know whether it was just internet lore or not, but I dropped the lowers off mine before I fitted them, but they seemed okay. You never get 10ml out of them.

I understand not having a full 10ml coming out due to some of it sticking on the inside, but there was barely any oil on the right leg...

Now it feels way smoother than my old 34, dramatic difference.

Mine had quite a lot of oil pour out of the legs of my Yari when I serviced it recently, although the wipers were dry. Not sure about the rings - they looked grubby so I just chucked them straight out.

Sounds like a lack of oil somewhere, especially from your comments about leaving it upside down for 5 mins. Drop the lowers and lube the foam ring. Shouldn't need to do this on a new fork, but it could have been sat for ages in shipping/before being sold.

A lowers service should be a regular thing really, it's quick and easy when you get set up for it

Agreed, it’s a shame really, but it seems they sell a lot of Friday afternoon forks.

I think when Loco sold them they were advertised as being inspected before sale by them for just this reason.

Yep, I think mine were at quarter to five afternoon Friday.

Will do a local DH track on Sunday, can't wait to feel them
