i have a 9 spd M970 xtr rear mech paired up to some 10spd DA shifters. Can i use a later 10sp xtr rear mech with clutch with these shifters?

If you use a JTek Shiftmate #6 it will work.

There's also a way of doing it by drilling a hole in the actuation arm to route the cable through (changing leverage), but I can't find the place on the internet where I read it again.
