bikecomponents.de have XT 2x10 without brakes for £320, seems alright to me. Very tempted actually when I have the money, after using it on a Cotic Rocket yesterday. Shifters are absolutely superb, even compared to SLX, and 38/26 felt like the perfect ratios to me.
