perhaps i'm being a bit thick here but i'm installing a left hand XT crank arm and there's a small plastic stopper plate that fits in 'behind' the crank bolts. it has a small locating pin that protrudes and prevents the plate sitting square to the crank arm.
I cant see the logic of the stopper plate anyways, but more importantly i cant see where the pic is supposed to seat/ locate as without that setted properly the plate wont push in a seat as the instructions suggest
Any help appreciated
Andy
The plate pivots on the inner most bolt. Push it up, slide the crank on, pop it down so the tang locates in the hole on the axle and then tesnion and secure the crank arm.
The locating pin sits in a hole in the axle.
It's there to stop the crank arm falling off if the bolts come lose and the end cap falls out.....
Like that would happen with out you noticing.
You'd probably still trash the cranks I reckon if that happened.
My crank needed a little gentle persuasion to go onto the axle far enough for the plate to drop into the hole on the axle.
I think that's what it's for - to make sure the crank is far enough onto the axle

do they not have a -preloader screw anymore?
Not an essential part, it just makes sure the cranks on the axle far enough. The preload cap should ensure that it does anyway.
thanks guys.... just found out mine is an older model set without the locating hole in the axle. have pulled the pin and attached it as bigyinn suggested
cheers for replies
