Alright peeps, ive not been here for a while so I hope everyone is well, and I haven't missed too much!
I'm thinking of upgrading my bike and going 11 speed with XT, but I have a question.
I believe my XT brakes are I-Spec B but wonder if I have to use an I-Spec B shifter, or can I use an I-Spec II shifter, is there any difference? I'd rather not use bar mount as I hate bar clutter!
Also, do I have to use a shimano ring, or can a use a Superstar NW, will this affect the chain in anyway, as in will the chain be too narrow?
I'll be moving from 10 speed X0 which I absolutely love and it never misses a beat so I'm also keen to hear how the XT 11 speed works. I've read good reviews in MBUK but I would like some real world feedback.
Cheers all.

B and II are not compatible - they're going to do an ispec b shifter which is what you'll need think it's due in Jan?
Edit : seems crc are listing as due 2nd of December.
I spec ii works with the newer i spec ii brakes, you'll need a spec b shifter.
Normal narrow wide works fine.
It's really nice and smooth, I much prefer it to sram 11 speed, this is a personal preference thing though
Cheers,
I'm looking to get them with other XT stuff from Mrs Endurokid for Christmas and I saw that CC had the B spec in early December so I can wait.
Thanks again
The chain ring will be fine, but if it is worn, it may make a horrible grinding noise. Mine did. I just turned the ring around and it's been fine since.
Think I'll change the whole group set if I'm getting a new chain, I would rather it works 100% from the offset.
If you're planning to get the XT M8000 chainset, you'll need either the XT DCE ring, or a thick thin ring that's compatible with the offset spider. Gamut do them amongst others.
CRC stock the oneup narrow wide for the XT M8000 crank, mine came yesterday.
I'm sure there was a PSA yesterday that there's 20% off at oneup though.
When I say changing the whole group set I was going to keep my existing XT crank, would that work or would this affect the chainline in anyway?
All other components would be 11 speed, but I'd just buy a Sperstar NW as I've been happy with my current one.
That'll be fine. If your chainset is a double and the ring is bigger than 30T then you'll benefit from using 2mm spacers to move the ring inboard, but if triple it'll be correct.
It's a double and I'd use a 30t upfront, any need for spacers?
Yeah you'll need spacers on a double with 30t to clear the tabs, or switch to raceface which has them built in.
Check out Marlin for the shimano stiff this weekend, they had some silly cheap stuff on their Black Friday email.. New xtr cranks for £135 etc
30T generally have built in spacers, so you won't need to add them.
Cheers all, much appreciated.
I'll look at Merlin too.
ze germans now have i-spec B shifters in stock
