Or not? Could it be run with no additional tuning and be ok for AM use?

It would be better if tuned.

Depends on the shock? Same internals as the DHX just that 3 of the adjustments are fixed in the factory.

the clues in the name

DHX had preload, rebound, boost valve volume and pressure and pro-pedal adjusters.

Van R just has preload and rebound adjusters, but IIRC still has the pro pedal shims/springs in the damper, obviously only adjustable by TF/MOJO/LoCo etc.

I don't know what the factory propedal setting is on a Van, but I hardly run any on my DHX and have no problem with pedal-bob. I think SC recommend about 10 clicks on and I run 3 just now IIRC. I'd guess a Van R would be set in the middle somewhere (7-10).

edit: 3 adjustments would be pro-pedal, boost and bottom-out.

Basically it is missing rider tunable compression damping and propedal. The compression damping is not an issue if its set as medium in the factory (how can i check - will it be on the fox site??), propedal would be o, i *think* a push tune is under £100 isn't it?

Isn't "bottom out" tuned by a bumper?

A vanilla R has rebound and permanent propedal which is factory set on either firm, medium or soft.

Yes it work and even on the soft preset propedal it will hardly bob at all. I think a push tune is 95 + 35 for the push but don't quote me.

Don't know that you'd need a push on a coil shock really coils behave very differently to air and I think push/TF are really more value for sorting out airshocks especially regarding mid stoke stuff. .

tbh, any bike will bob.

Just keep a smooth pedalling motion, and bob will be minimal.

I've got an old heckler (pre 2006) with an even older shock (2001 Float R) - no propedal at all (hadn't bee invented). It actually isn't too bad - ok, if you get out of the saddle and really honk it then it moves but smooth pedaling - even out of the saddle doesn't cause too much movement.
