I paid for a bike this evening but now think it doesn't add up.

See here http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-2006-titus-racerx-29er

No reply to my emails after I paid full amount from paypal.

Seems like a really good price I think. Why do you think you've been scammed?

How many times have you mailed him, and over what time peroid? Why don't you think it adds up? (apart from the seller only being a member for a week and only setting up one post 😕 )

well I can vouch that firestarter wouldn't have scammed you.

do you have any contact details of DaveDeDave though? I've not heard of him before.

The price is too good to be true and the seller has no history looking at his posts. I have no contact details, only a vague location of where he lives. I just sent the money without thinking first. Firestarter said he had contacted Davede before but I can't find any history on any other posts.

Don't want to p** on your chips, but,if somethings too good to be true then it usually is.That said, what is making you think you have been scammed ? Have you made arrangements for collection etc ?
I'm on here a fair bit & don't recognise the seller tbh.

Two things you look at before handing over any money.

DaveDeDave doesn't seem too on the ball if he can't find his emails, hopefully he gets back to you soon.

When did you pay? How long have you been without contact?

If a long-time lurker, he may have set up an account specifically to sell the bike. The fact that he's not posted before doesn't mean he's definitely on the fiddle (I'm not ruling it out though)

do you have any contact details other than an email address?

how did you pay via paypal, did you gift the money or was it as a payment for goods/services?

to me, the fact that he's offered to sell it as parts makes me think it might not be a scam otherwise there'd be more than one person on his tail. give it a day or two to account for family crisis etc.

You may be covered by paypal so don't panic just yet. Paypal should also have an address for the guy so try and see if you can find his details through there.

He does say he's new to these things so don't panic.
I once bought a wheel from another forum and then never heard from the guy, ended up contacting Paypal and suddenly the guy starts emailing me saying he'd cut through his phone line whilst gardening and hadn't been able to get online to get my details. Wheel turned up a few days later so it was either a very strange excuse or actually genuine!!

I would generally send an acknowledgement/thanks email after receiving payment for something, but to be fair if you only paid this evening, the chap could be out - I'd wait and see what turns up in your inbox tomorrow.

Okay I got refunded, sorry for my panic. I have missed a deal but also learnt a lesson tonight. I don't drive so wouldn't be able to pick up so until then I'm staying away from bargains.

Davede sounds ok. But I'm bailing as I can't afford risks. So no issues, but people be careful as I could have been scammed. It's SO easily done and that's why I acted quickly. I forget I know quite a lot about bikes that others may not know even if they own a Titus.

🙂 Sorry Dave, I'm sure someone will buy it and come and collect it from you instead of having to post it.

Anyone could be scammed when buying off here or any other forum, the fact is, you've got to trust people and not just jump to conclusions to soon.

I think the fact that so many of these scamming horror stories get branded about doesnt really help anyone. I've bought loads of stuff of this forum and others and have never had any problems (yet)

Sounds like the seller is (rightfully) miffed about being called a scammer and is refunding the original payment to the "offending" buyer?

As above, ask questions before rushing into a deal. Harder to get answers after money sent!

I'm struggling to work out if it was a scam or just a buyer who changed his mind/ got jumpy/ timewaster? To little detail, as it stands I wouldn't trade with either.

I'm becoming convinced that back in 1932 the MI5 in conjunction with the CIA & the KGB decided to see if there was any milage behind the 10,000 monkeys + 10,000 typewriters = the complete works of Shakespeare, what we have just experienced may or may not have been some stray overspill from that project? (the ALF may/may not have liberated a few of the labs)

tin foil anyone?

Seems to me like someone threw a bit of a hissy fit claiming 'dibs', then got cold feet/paranoia and starting throwing accusations around and demanded their money back?

me? no! you appear to have been an innocent bystander unless...

you're actually the missing KGB Subject 1932-No.995017, and in that case, how do I reset my car radio and have you any idea how hard it is to remove banana from velour!?!

hold on, were you talking about someone else implying that you were...? oh I give up! 🙂

No animals where hurt during this production. I hold my hands up and say sorry for the messing about and all those involved but with the change of forum structure and everybody having to sign up again at xmas I had a little panic about how safe this forum is.

Firestarter I have a lot on my plate at the moment and with my panic attack have decided against it even though it's a bargain. Also the sizing has changed from 06 to 09 so would fit you better firestarter as it's more like the current small.

The title should have read "I got a great deal, I hope it's real". Sorry for the whole scam notion but you never know and I've learnt the easy way by kidding myself it was too good to be true. Peace; 🙂
