Have you been before? Is is worth going? I was wondering about encouraging our local Tourist Office official along.
Is that the one that is open to all but with a tourism slant and also costs about £120 per day to attend?
If so, no I don't think it is worth attending unless you have stacks of cash and are into tourism*.
*Nothing wrong with tourism but it isn't the be-all-and-end-all of MTBing...
Just went to register to get price - £150 per day or £425 for the 3 days...hardly encouraging everyone to attend and get involved but I guess it is targeting a specific market.
According to the CTC it's been cancelled "due to the economic crisis",http://www.ctc.org.uk/DesktopModules/Articles/ArticlesView.aspx?TabID=0&ItemID=175&mid=13417 I guess that translates as "lack of interest". As far as tourism goes, it's a brilliant thing, it drives an industry. Without the trail centres MTB would not be were it is today. Anyway, that's my rather biased opinion. I observe the ski industry and make a comparison. The ski resorts are the trail centres, they are great places that serve a purpose. The "real" skiing (and mountain biking) is off in the hills somewhere. BUT without the theme park both sports would be a (very) minority sport. I just wish I could rationalise the environment with tourism. I can't. Maybe I'll offer a 20% discount to anyone who comes on our holidays via the least carbon polluting method. So 4 in a car or by train. I should. I will. Just tell the wife (for it is she that does the bookings) that I said so!
