I seem to be getting a whole bunch of wobble on the road bike, most noticeable at speed obviously. No major buckles in either wheel ( wobble feels like it's at the front end ) and I've had the front hub serviced.
Could the wobble be 'slide' from worn tyres ?
Help please.
Check the tyre is seated evenly on the rim as a starter-for-ten......
There's usually not one sole cause. It's some combination of things inducing the resonant frequency of your bike. So all sorts of things can contribute to it. You may be able to reduce it by changing some element of the bike (wheels, forks, bars, tyres even) to alter the resonant frequency, or by changing your riding style/practice to try to stop inducing it.
It's been discussed on here at fair length, and a google for "speed wobble bicycle" will pull up loads more rambling discussions and good and bad ideas for dealing with it ๐
I had same symptoms yesterday, coincidentally. My tyre wasn't sitting in the rim properly on one small section. If you flip the bike and look along the tyre 'horizon' as you spin it you might be able to see where it is.
Silly question, how far back is your saddle? I knew of one guy with the same issue pushed his saddle forward and fitted a longer stem
Sorted
putting your knee on the side of the top tube can stop a wobble to
nothing has really changed with regard to set up but the wobble has suddenly appeared.
after riding home tonight, i reckon the wobble is actually coming from the rear. i'll make a start on checking tyre pressures and alignment tomorrow.
Ive had this at 40mph spokey dokeys on a road bike bad move.
Similar point magnet for speedo if its a biggie and has slid to the outside edge of the wheel can cause speed wobble.
holding the bars really tightly can induce wobble, stay relaxed on the bike where possible
I had a wobble I thought was coming from the front.
Turned out it was a 2 inch gash in the rear tyre that was bulging and causing a wobble.
I noticed something like this when I had locked up a wheel and put a flat spot in the tread (disclaimer, I may have confused myself with an F1 driver)...
If someone else rides the bike, do they get wobbles?
Could be what Edhornby said, if there's no mechanical reason.
I had this problem a few years ago after a series of pretty nasty crashes, easier said than done but try and relax, I found singing to myself on descents helped me to relax.
Seem to be totally over it now
I've noticed this recently at speed on my road bike but thought it was just some kind of cross wind doing it.
Cycling home from work I noticed a slight wobble from the front wheel on my commuter. Couldn't see anything untoward and got home ok.
Went to get the bike out to clean it the next day and this had happened:
!!! (That's a Royce hub that's exploded)
I'd also check the tyre sidewalls - if they're going it can cause a wobble / thunk type sensation, more so at low speeds...
