Hi All,
inevitably, with the weather finally turning, it's time to think of wet gear!
Following on from a previous thread, I realise I'll probably have to replace my overshoes which always ride up over the toes......and I hate wet feet..... or cold feet... so perhaps new boots time??

I prefer 'boot' rather than shoes and in the past found Shimano quite narrow ( but don't know what current stuff's like ). I currently use a pair of Lake boots that I find comfy with 2 pairs of socks but are not waterproof in any way.
What do you people wear to keep out the wet and cold?
cheers

I switched to the shimano mt90 boots last winter and very pleased with them so far. Used to use shimano mw02 and after 2 years relatively hard use they'd rotted to bits with holes all over them. I guess peaks acidic soil eats leather.

Water gets in over the tops easier than on the MW02s, but they're nice and warm with sealskin socks, and v supportive too. Lasted a lot better than the MW02s had when they were a year old, but to be fair I'm a lot more careful in cleaning them after rides

ok...will take a new look at the shimano stuff, armed with 2 pairs of socks for fit!

Last Spring was in lbs and took a look at the end of season sell off's. They do specialised with the 'BG fitting service', seeing as my feet are odd shapes (start of bunions, sadly ) wondered if that might be worth a look too.
Any Spesh users out there??

i can really rate the Shimano MW80s as 10/10 you will never have
cold feet ever again.Even down as far a -15 i still have toasty
feet just make sure you leave enough space for some wooly socks.

I use the specialized insoles and wedge things, but put them in all my different boots. Good stuff.

NorthWave Celcius for me. Great performance and great value. Mine are being dusted off for their 5th winter season 8)

woodsman:
Can't rember what they are, except they're about 10years old ๐Ÿ˜ณ
they are general purpose boots, not winter specific, and now quite old hence the 'time for some new ones' idea.

TM and friends: Northwave.....that's another option! Sounds like something that'll last too. I tend to be terrible for getting something and sticking to it for years....
( scribbles it down on list....)

keep 'em coming!

Ohhh anyone tried the Shimano MT90L boot?
that style sort of appeals... not sure how they stand up though.
thanks for all the ideas

northwave with two pairs of woolen socks - ankle part took a while to "break in" and stop rubbing. For me uncomfortable if I do them up tight around the ankle so water can get in over the top but warm and toasty.

I got some Northwave Celsius too, but I find the sole quite flexy (after using some carbon Specialized disco slippers) and they make my feet ache ๐Ÿ™

Nice and toasty though ๐Ÿ™‚

I've got some MT90Ls (just a makeover of the MT90s, no major difference) and can echo everything snowslave says. I was a bit worried about Shimano fit as I have quite wide feet, but found the last roomier than other Shimano shoes I've tried, even with fairly chunky socks on.

I wear Shimano MW80's but one size bigger than normal as they do come up on the small side.

Not had any problems with them including in this years February snow & in wet weather either.

Sadly they stop at size 11 (and before anyone misinterprets, that's not intended as a boast)

ok.... thanks peeps.
Looks like i need a trip round a few lbs's armed with 2 pairs of socks and see what's a good fit. Got some names here, plus ideas on how they stand up in the real world of wet and cold.
thanks for all the info
