As title says really.
looking at the sram force rear mech, i have old tiagra STI's, presume there should be no worries using them together?

I doubt it. If SRAM road stuff is the same as the MTB stuff (And I think it is) it has a different cable pull ratio to Shimano, and simply won't work.

No. If the shifters are indexed.
shimano uses a 2 to 1 shift ratio where 2mm of cable movement gives 1mm mech movement.
Sram uses 1:1
but the front mech will be fine.
