After Mayhem am thinking i might build a 456 with lefty for ultimate mud clearance. Will it fit?

You could try fitting a Fatbike fork using a 135mm front hub and a standard rim/tyre. That would give you massive mud clearance.

don't you need a fat headtube for leftys? and 456s are only tapered.

You can get leftys with normal headtubes too, either with aftermarket steerers or I think cannondale do them too, branded "lefty for all".

You need either a project 321 adapter or cannondales own "lefty for all" adapter to fit them to 1 1/8" headsets

Cheers fellas. Not too bothered about pretty. Nothing looked pretty in the middle of the night saturday, and you would probably have got a faster lap time on a turd!

"lefty for all"
ah right, cool

looks wierd on that (comparativly) skinny tubed 456

for reference I have a fugly c456 and would definitley fit a lefty if I could get one cheap 🙂

It was a standard On-One colour for last year, I got a bit bored of black and silver bikes. Now people struggle on what to comment on first, the lefty or the colour

Looks weird on most things tbh, but it works brilliantly and I can confrim after a very muddy ride on it last night that there is zero mud clearance problems from the front wheel.

definitley fit a lefty if I could get one cheap

Mine was just over £100 on ebay, and came complete with the project 321 adapter and front wheel.

I don't understand lefties. Well I do, but somehow they make me feel wrong inside. Engineering-wise it's all wrong to support a wheel in single shear and load the leg off-centre like that. But I suppose they do do the job!

🙄 Next time you have a look at you car please let me know how the wheels are attached!

Most wheels in most applications are held in single shear, even some motor bike manufactures now have single sided swingarms to aid the unsprung mass.

It just seems to be bike manufacturers who stick with the idea that the wheel needs to be supported on both sides, you then need compromises like weak rubber bushings to keep the weight down.

When you look at it the lefty is a much better engineering solution than any "conventional" fork 😈

Will definitely work! I have just put a lefty speed 110 on my C456 this morning, went on like a dream. Used a tapered steerer with a couple of milled spacers to increase the size to 1.5" exactly the same method as using a project 321 adaptor.
Now I just need to find the time at home to buy and fit everything else to the bike! And figure out what else to build into it, thinking of going for 650b wheels, and running all th cabling internally (by adding 2 small prepreg carbon patches at the entry and exit holes) Unfortunately work keeps me on the road most of the time
