[Closed] Will a Garmin Edge 500 work in a bag?

As above. I have the mounts on my road and cx bikes. I'm not really interested in viewing the data while on the move on my mtb, so was thinking of just chucking the computer in the top pocket of my rucksack to record the ride.

Will it work, or am I likely to mess up all the data?

Should be fine if it's the top pocket. You'll only really hit problems if your body is shielding the view of the sky and/or the bag gets soaked through.

It'll work fine.

Touch screen devices, not so much. We forgot to fit mount to Munqe Chick's bike last weekend and she put her 800 in her camel back. Worked okay but all the display settings had changed.

So long as you take the bag with you, yes

Cool. Cheers guys. Saves me having to mess around with the mounts.

And yes, I do plan to take the bag with me ๐Ÿ˜€

Why would it be an issue if the bag got wet?

Just mount it on the bars and turn the brightness all the way down or set the display to just display time, in a bag you'll just forget to turn it off

It'll work fine. I stick mine in my pocket for skiing. I'd recommend allowing it to get a fix before putting it in the bag though.

If you read any of the threads about using a 500 when running, unless you keep them right way up they tend to be useless at recording.

Mine doesnt work in a pocket, so I cant see it working in a bag

My 200 works fine in a camelbak or ruck sack, can't see any issue.

Did you lock the screen before putting it in the bag? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I didn't because my 500 was securely mounted to my bars. I can't speak for Munqe-Chick though... ๐Ÿ˜‰

In my experience of this you'll get a good measure of the overall distance, speed, etc but if you're targeting specific strava segments they might be a bit out.

@crashtestmonkey - you can lock the screen so that this doesn't happen - press the power button briefly and the status screen appears, click the padlock icon. Do the same to unlock it.
