I have a 10 speed XT setup at the mo. I want to fit a chainset thats for 9 speed, will this work OK, or will there be compatability issues?
I should add that my current setup is 10 speed XT, except that the chainset is 10 speed basic shimano. Im looking to fit an SLX double, which is apparently for 9 speed only.

Yes and you can get slx in 10 speed,

should work. Just set your front derailleur to stop at the middle. Looks a bit silly without the proper double front derailleur though IMO as it is a bit high (unless you can drop it down a bit).
