Just wondered if a pair of 1.5 " straight steerer forks will fit on a orange 5 taper steerer frame using an external top cup, steerer I beleive is 44mm at top looking at orange web site.
Anyone tried it?

In a word no
Unless you have some strange prototype it'll either be a 1 1/8" straight steerer or a tapered headtube
Can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work. Just to make sure, remove your forks and stick a piece of 40mm plumbing pipe up the headtube. If it goes all the way to the top cup then you should have enough clearance for a 1.5" fork.
Didn't word that very well, I don't have a 5 yet so can't check it out.
I have the forks in a blue pig currently with 44mm straight steerer and external headset cups.
I could use this set up with a new internal lower cup.
If a 5 frame is 44mm at top then headset should fit it, but does anyone know if the headtube gets any narrower than 44mm in the middle?
