Morning,
I'm signed up for the full boar again this coming weekend and wondering how it's riding round there at the moment? How chunky a tyre do I need?
Anyone else riding from here?
Cheers
Chris

Was there on Friday and it was running dry and fast. Not sure if any rain is due this week - but even if it did it'd probably help as some sections are really dusty and loose. All good fun!
There's a little rain forecast for Friday (subject to change) which should damp the dust down a little.
I'm doing the full bore again, it's a pleasant ride but very, very sedate so please don't expect anything other than fireroads and the odd bit of rooty single track. It's a cracking event myself and my mates are doing the full distance as part of our training for ard rock, completely different event formats but time in the saddle is important.
You will not need anything substantial tyre wise. Go light and fast rolls my if I were you
Edit: just re-read your post and can see you have done it before.
Thanks all.
Thanks Russyh, did it last year and despite being massively unfit I had loads of fun. I'm just happy to have a day out on the bike!
I have done it for a few years now, always enjoy it. Its a social ride as far as im concerned with a bit of a distance chucked in. Every year i moan like a baby about the bottlenecks, every year i come back for more.
Like I say my mate and I are using it to get some good distance and time in the saddle under our belts and benchmark how our training is going. Hopefully my new bike will arrive before so i can get a good shakedown on it!
Sound good russy. I'll be bimbling along on my Pace 129 if you see me. Toddler means bike time limited so I'll be making the most of a day out! The beer stop half way might be interesting too ๐
I'm down to do the Full Boar again, but due to the lack of training I'll bail and do the Woody Boar again.
Conditions wise its almost too dusty on the off-piste stuff. As mentioned above I reckon a little rain a day or two before the event will help
However I just can't bring myself to do it, despite having entered three times. It basically goes past a multitude of amazing trails in the Forest and goes down hardly any of them.

It's not that kind of event though. Last weekend I was there on my full sus, riding said trails and I probably will be next weekend. Was nice to get on a HT with fast rolling tyres and smash out some XC Miles today though.
Did the Full Boar for the 4th year in a row. Drastically different route, and if anything, the toughest route yet. Finished just over 4hrs, would have liked to have dipped below 4 but was having cramp issues from half way round and that climb up from the River back to the top was relentless!
Got to say this years route felt like a bit of a slog. Especially pedalling back up from the river! Managed not to cramp but started to get some twinges. I will confess that when riding through Staunton I fancied dipping off down some of the trails. The endless fireroad and tarmac had worn thin!
Done the full Boar a few times now.
The fireroad today was a bit relentless but the rest was all good fun!
Will probably be there next year!

4th year for me too. I know the new route wasn't universally popular, but I quite liked riding somewhere different, especially along the Wye. Doing the burial path in the opposite direction seemed quite novel: completely different ride (i.e. more rideable climb but trickier descent).
Big thanks to the organisers and all the martials. I thought all the road crossings were well managed, and the water points were better spaced than previous years.
2nd year on the full boar for me. Enjoyed it a lot. Cramped up a lot which made some of the climbs a real slog. I'm happy for a 5hr ride and generally fun day in the sun!
First time on the Full Boar for me, really enjoyed it, thought the balance of trails was good for the distance, and happy with a 4h23m time ๐
