I can't remember when something broke or fell apart on my normal civvy clothing so am I expecting too much for the cycling stuff to last more that a year?
In the past year:
DHB - I was impressed with the fit and design of DHB clothes until now but the seat stitching on the pads of 2 bib shorts have come away and the ankle zips are broken. On a jersey the zip broke.
Endura - Hummvee's fell apart, stitching on MT500 bibs coming apart.
Altura - Attack waterproof shorts were sent back 3 times after the popper broke.

Or maybe should I just be spending more on premium bands such as Gore?

Endura Humvees are just too thin. 2 pairs of mine have fell apart
Endura Singletracks on the other hand (thicker, more durable) are holding out much longer, as well as being a much better fit, repel more water, not as annoying when wet etc etc ..

Ditto and poppers failing.
Mate took his Xmas prezzie trouser out of the packet to find zip stitching loose, as I did!!

You need to be spending some more pennies then, Gore worth looking at.

None of my Fox or Altura stuff shows any signs of wearing out, it's all well made and durable... The only kit I've had which isn't well made is DHB, and to a lesser extent 5 10, but at least the DHB stuff cost pennies. Buy good stuff, it's out there.

i tend not to use much cycling specific clothing nowadays
a, cos it is not made in mens sizes.... 😉
b, for the same reason as the op.

i use marmot outdoor leggings for tights
goretex army kegs cut down for shorts
a base, fleece and pertex combo from a motorcycle clothing manufacturer, who obviously do make mens sizes
and a nice new made to measure waterproof from cioch.....perfect.

Brand new campag winter bib tights for Christmas - leg seam came undone the first time I put them on!

Oh, and altura attacks - both zips broke within two rides. Crap.

Gore Oxygen 2 tights - got for Christmas, 3 rides, bum worn through on both, er, cheeks.

Endura 3/4 tights - stitching came apart, again only a few rides old.

Both are going back now...

On the other hand, I have 2 pairs of Assos 851 tights, along with 2 pairs of their 3/4s, 2 Intermediate jerseys and 2 851 jerseys that are now 4 years old and still brilliant.

Cash is worth it, or so it would seem...

Totally agree with the OP- Alot of MOUNTAIN bike kit is made very cheaply and is gash to say the least. I've been through countless shorts (rips etc) and gloves that shart unravelling inbetween the fingers (stitching).

Endura Singletrack pants are gash. The belt isnt actually a belt.

Kona made some brilliant shorts (heavy weight Primo)- why not anymore?

Also Spesh sport Spd shoes- my first pair lasted 4yrs. They've changed the design and this latest pair are starting to let go within a year.

Why?!

In winter just use army kit. Cyclists who look down on you look like berks to civvies anyway 😉

<<Endura Humvees>>

I have worn a pair every working day for two years and apart from one zip going they have been fine

Fek me I just searched for some Assos stuff and no matter how good they are £150 for a pair of bib shorts is too rich for me.

rootes1. Mine replaced two faulty pairs. I've not been through bramble bushes or fallen in them- yet less than a year on and they are full of holes. Im too embarrised to take them back to the LBS.

gore stuff does seem to last very well, zips are good and my oxygen bibs didnt wear through in 3 rides, this surely is a d defect or complete bullshit..

dhb leg zips are on the other hand are complete rubbish, shame as they are decent value bibs

What they said - love Gore and now like Craft. I have been through too much Endura and Altura stuff and yet my Gore Phantom jacket has lasted for years and years with no sign of problems yet (think i got it early 2005).

When it came to choosing clothing as a retailer it was an easy choice. You pay more but overall, you save money in a big way.

Did I say I like it?

I've got a bunch of assos clothing that I bought in the 90s, yes it was horribly expensive - but i wear it a lot, it's still comfortable and hasn't fallen apart. And if you do damage it they have a very good repair service.

crickey...

My endura tights and shorts are now 3 years old and still going... Bontrager clothes seem to be good quality also!

I have some Nike bib shorts and tights as well which seem good and my howies long way home jacket is great.

As a kid all our Assos stuff fell to bits quite quickly.
