Why don't grip...

[Closed] Why don't grips come in different widths?

Why are all grips the same width?

I'd really like a set of lock on that were about an extra inch wider to accommodate my shovel like hands... Then I would have the sensitive outsidey bit of my hand resting on the metal collar. It does seem odd that we get everything else in differing sizes, but not grips.

Unless I've missed something fundamental.

Suggestions welcome...

PS I realise non lock on grips would help a little, but I like the convenience of them...

They do - in fact Specialized sell their larger bikes with larger grips than their smaller models.
Admittedly most shops don't stock a range of exact sizes but you tend to find that some grips come up larger than others anyway.

Edit: try using roadie bar tape, you can make it as thick as you like then.

I saw some BMX grips recently that were one long sleeve that you cut to choose your own width. Cant remember who did them though.

I also have shovel hands but find the lock-on grips with the end plugs that go over the metal collar are fine (really notice if I ride a bike without them)
