Just having a look at some steel hardtails and they just look wrong with flat pedals. The tubing looks all slim and svelte then there are these chunky heavy looking bits of metal in the middle of it all. Ruins the lines and look of the bike IMO.

I couldnt agree more! I think exactly that when my missis rides my Rocky (ooh matron...)(and needing flattiies). Think its the skinny tubing thing you mention..

all bikes look stupid with little attachment mechanism where there should be proper pedals 😛

Who the frig cares, the pedals are meant to have feet on the them for riding the the bike not looking at it in your garage.

Did you say steel? mmm very elegant material, one step away from pig iron.
