And whilst we're at it, anyone got one and think it's good/ bad?

Better than an Occam....?

Could be a simple case of the orange ones aren't selling so they have a lot left so dropping the price by £500 will entice people to buy them

Sounds to me like it might be a Project One paintjob - essentially Project One paintjobs cost ~£500.

The XTs were a 63 day leadtime when I looked at the Top Fuel - not sure if they're the same here.

Yup, if you look closely on the chainstay of the image it says it is...

To answer the question about better than an Occam? I couldn't say, but I have both a carbon Top Fuel 9.8 and a Remedy 8 and I love both. A Fuel 9.8 should be a great all round bike - not cheap, but it will work very well out of the box.

It says colour: matt carbon smoke.
With my limited knowledge, is say this sounds like a translucent finish, so I'd guess the carbon has to be finished to a higher standard and the clear coated. Possibly even with a woven top layer as opposed to patches of UD that frames are usually made with, which isn't what a lot of people associate with 'carbon'
It's much easier to paint carbon to a good standard than clear coat.

I’d pay an extra £500 not to have a yellow bike. 5k to avoid shitwalls.

I had a short demo on the alloy one earlier this year. I was very impressed. It rode light, the suspension felt very active and poppy (even i got it in the air) but stiffened up under pedalling. It was very plush. Nice and balanced. I went for the occam but I'd have happily gone for the equivalent fuel model. I think the occam had a marginally better spec.

Currently got the second trek bike in our house that's out of action because of lack of spare parts. And no foresight as to when they'll be available. I know covid... Blah blah blah, but for a main stream manufacturer this isn't on. I'm bordering on saying I'd never buy a trek again. The last bike had to be retired early due to a shock failure on a custom sized shock and no spare parts availability ever. I don't mind stuff failing, but support your products please. They might seem cheap on the shelves but so far the spares experience for me has been diabolical.

Goth tax, as used to be common with cameras.

Black is so boring. I'd have the yellow and spend the rest on rum.

A sales guy in a Midlothian bike shop was telling me that Trek was the McLaren of bikes. I said they're more like the VW, decent but hardly a rare supercar.

I forget how much a top end Project One was (where every option was selected) but I remember being shocked by how much it was, maybe £10-£12k?

I like the raw / red one personally over the orange one. The black is very nice but not for £500 extra.
