Bought a DH rig a couple of weeks ago and rear shifting was a bit ropey - only 8 out of the 9 gears available. Changed the shifter and cable and it's even worse. I've indexed so many setups in my time but this has me flumoxed!! Saint shifter (new), SRAM x9 mech (old) and 11-26 cassette but it's taking two clicks on the shifter to make one change... Looks like the spacing of the cassette is wider than the spacing of the shifter - can't be right though??
Any thoughts before I splash out on a new mech and/or cassette??
Shimano shifter won't work with a sram mech
Shimano Shifter + Sram Mech = Fail.
Edit: ^^^beaten to it!
sram x9 DOES NOT WORK WITH SHIMANO!!
No,Mr 6 million dollar wins.
Double too slow!!!
Same as they've said above.
Shimano and SRAM have different cable pull ratio's.
Thought Shimano was 2:1 ratio and Sram 1:1 and they have to be the same pull/click ratio to work correctly or is the saint different??
Edit - Too slow, but nice to know I'm right
Makes sense the 2:1 ratio - that'll be why it needs two clicks to change once. X0 shifter didn't work either tho, but it looks like the mech hanger is bent too - god knows how they did that to such a solid lump!?? So think I'll persevere with the x0 mech and try new hanger... Cheers for quick responses!!
Just goes to show a 4am start, long day at work then a few glasses of vino isn't the best prep for a bit of fettling ๐
Try bashing it with a hammer
Keep the Saint shifter and fit a new Shimano mech - bingo!
