i went for my first long off road ride today (20miles) took two leisurly hours in the sun and it was fantastic.not to challanging, as round my way is very flat. any how around 12- 15 miles into the ride ,the inside of my shins, about two inches down from my knee caps on the inside of my legs started to ache (and no im not knocking them on the crossbar!).when i was home they were and now are, killing me! everywhere else im fine, ankles , back , neck, bum.
ok i dont ride this far reguarly so im sure i will get used to it, but im confused as to what muscle/ligamment this is and how i could prevent this? in the area that hurts, all i can feel is the bone of my shin close to the surface.its like the bone hurts?im sure its not but anybody else had this?
Set your cleats up properly.
im not running cleats, just flat pedals (dmr v8's)
could this be the reason tho?
would cleats help?
come to think of it i guess i was riding in the saddle a lot.my bars are fairly high and i could well have been sporting a "legs a kimbo" stylee!
(Well a bit)
That'll be it then.
The legs akimbo style is one way to mess up your knees.
Sore knees = seat too low (usually)
thing is i dont belive it is my knees.it the top of the shin, where it meets the knee.
think i may play around with the saddle and stem heights.saddle could be a bit higher, just a tiny bit, and if the stem droped slightly id have more of a, bum up shoulders down stance.(kind of)
Both me and the other half find knee pain almost completely removed by switching to SPDs
