Hi chaps,
Who has a 2017 or 2018 Lyrik that they've upgraded with the new 2019 debonair air assembly?
Objectively, does it make as much difference as the reviews make out? I know it's really difficult, as you're unlikely to change a brand new, serviced air assembly for a new one, so likely the comparisons are going to be worn/dry Vs new/slick.
Cheers
Ricks
Mine is a Little tricky as I had a Yari and changed the moco for Charger 2 at the same time as also going from 160mm to 170mm travel. But the fork is transformed - so plush.
For £42 and tops an hour’s work it’s well worth doing though I’d say.
In the next few weeks I’ll be changing out an old style 130mm airshaft in a pike (2017) for a 140mm debonair airshaft. I guess that’ll give a better feel for the difference.
I think you should be able to run slightly higher pressure for more mid stroke support (magazine cliche alert!) whilst still having a more supple initial stroke.
I have one ready to install to my 120mm 650b Pike at next service, £20 from ebay, thought I'd give it a go.
Yes Rickon, done it and it was even better than expected.
Better than the standard Lyrik and better than one with a Luftkappe (which I thought was ace anyway).
Specifically - Big improvement on small bump performance, nice support throughout stroke, holds the bike up on steep bits.
Best suspension upgrade bang for buck ever, probably.
Fitted one to my Yari, definite improvement in the first part of the travel. Not a tricky job, just a very oily one.
Hi lads what’s different with the 2019 air shaft to make it better ?
Bigger negative air chamber for more support.
Less friction on the seal head for better small-bump absorbtion.
Cheers chaps,
I suspected that would be the case.... new shaft on order. To be fair, I do prefer to drop the lowers on a new fork to make sure they're topped up with oil and well lubed in the air assy,

Cheers lads. Just a question plz my pikes are 140 would I be able to raise them to 150 with new shaft ?
Cheers
Yes, ring TF or your seller of choice to get the correct shaft.
Updated my A1 forks - huge improvement. Small lumps and roots disappear.
I bought a 2018 Yari and replaced the damper with a charger 2 then changed the air spring for the 2019 air spring 6 months later.
In a 150mm Lyrik the newer air spring felt a lot more sensitive and I felt the need to remove the 2 tokens that were inside.
£42 didn't seem much money in such an expensive fork for the performance gains that you get.
I have 2 Lyriks, one with a Luftkappe and one with a debonair. Contrary to Cha****ng I wouldn’t say the debonair was any better, in fact I would say the benefits were more pronounced with the luftkappe. Just my opinion though and they are both a cheap upgrade

Interesting, how would you describe each of them?
I thought the Luftkappe offered more support, but not the same sensitivity as the Debonair shaft - which translated to better traction for me. And once I'd popped a token back in there was no lack of support anyway.
Yes it’s was the mid stroke support that I was referring to, I’m running 2.8 tyres so traction is not really an issue and unfortunately the sidewalls on these big tyres dulls most of the sensitivity.
That could make total sense actually.
My experience of 2.8in tyres is they cut out most of the small-bump stuff anyway.
Just swapped mine over in my Pike

Seems plusher just rolling around in the garage, had to increase air pressure from 60psi to 75psi to achieve similar sag.
Does the upgrade affect tokens in any way?
Just need this infernal rain to let up & allow the trails to dry now...........
saving this thread for future reference 😉
I went from a luftkappe pike to a 2018 lyrik and way preferred the pike for sensitivity. I thought I had to change air shaft and cartridge to 2019 to make a difference but is not the case? Sorry for the confusion! If a £42 air shaft can make my fork better I’m all for it!
You don’t need to change the cartridge m, just the £42 airshaft. The damper will be a charger in a Lyrik - in a 2018 fork probably a charger 2.
I've been a bit disappointed with my year old Yaris vs. float 34 for small bump. If I get that right it bottoms too easily, despite screwing around with pressure and tokens. Would this help with that situation? Sounds like it, and if so, I'm all over it like a fire blanket!
Yep, the problems seem to be with friction on the seal head for the 2017-2018 forks. The new one fixes this, and also add a load of negative air volume.
For the sake of £35 (from Bikester), and 20 minutes in the workshop, I'm going for it.
And to be fair, this is the exact same issue that plagued the pre-Evol 36s. The quad seal head created far too much friction.
i have already done the upgrade, but now i want to change the travel.
Anyone know its its possible to bolt the new debonair topper assembley onto a longer shaft or is it a whole new spring purchase?
i know you could take off the old style topper because i did it when i installed a lufftkappe on some old Pikes.
the extra negative spring volume is inside the shaft so you need the whole thing AFAIK.
ok thanks. fair enough
I did it on a 150mm 2018 Pike. I think it really makes a difference. Plush, supportive and sensitive all in one... reasonable price too...
Had my Lyrik 160mm upgraded, took a token out and run more PSI and feels great, sits higher in travel but still soft off the top. Went to BPW and didnt get any hand fatigue for the first time in ages!
Is there a difference between say a 160mm airshaft for a 29er and a 160mm airshaft for a 27.5? I know on the old one it would be 180 27.5 to fit a 160 29er.
Cheers
go here:

enter your fork serial number and it will tell you the numbers of compatible parts.
Cheers, Joemmo! CRC had the part down to £32 so I'll give it a go.
