Hi Chaps,

I'm looking to replace my flat pedals soon, interested in something that's going to last a while as I really can't be bothered to service pedals anymore.

Who is running these? Did you replace the pins with the hollow longer ones?

Cheers

Ricks

Also interested in these as having broken my leg I want to ease myself back in using flats.

Me, and yes. I've actually also left out the pins in the middle of the platform and on the outside edge, so I just use the ones on the leading and trailing edges of the pedals. With the hollow pins in those positions only you get a nice concave feeling and massive grip. The quality of the pedals seems superb so far, definitely a notch above anything else I've looked at. Bugtec would be another option to look at.

Robin - do you mean you bought the hollow pins, got something like 20 in the pack, and thought "ah... screw this, I'll just use pack across both pedals!".

Are they useable enough without the upgraded pins? in that, do you end up flinging your feet off them when jumping, or kicking the back around?

I'm using them with the standard pins, but also without the middle ones. I find grip to be at least as good as on my Nanos and Wellgo pedals on the other bikes (with Sombrio and Shimano shoes), maybe a little better. Pleased with the quality so far too, though they haven't been through a winter with me yet. I opened them up just to have a look inside and the sealing seemed very thorough compared to my other pedals. I chose them over the new Burgtecs because they're slightly wider over-all (Burgtecs sit closer to the cranks, which doesn't suit me).

This is how I'm running them. I'd already removed the centre pins because pins in the middle of the platform almost always reduce grip but as is happens, yes, one packet of long pins carefully deployed does both pedals. I left the middle pin on the front edges as a normal short pin and that keeps the total number of long pins down to one packet. The result is spot on in my opinion.

Running mine with standard pins and I'm using walking shoe type shoes rather than flats and they are grippier than anything else I've used (Wellgo MG-1, Shimano DX, V8's etc)

I use them a lot. there ok. Take a lot of hammer. Comparing them to the saints and nanos before them. Not as light as the nanos but lighter than the saints. Using the standard pins less grip than both but plenty using 510's flatter profile than the saints that were slightly concave and gave me cramp.

they looked lovely at first. Now there battered to chuff and look no different from any other pedals

any questions just ask.

Cheers chaps, not too bother about looks - more about longevity and reliability.

Trying to decide between a set of these and the DMR Vaults.

DMR vaults are a lot fatter, for me thinner pedals feel a lot nicer - as you don't feel perched on the bike.

Really? My mate has just put the Brendog vaults on his Ticket and they look super slim. Maybe I was half asleep.

Ah, yes - looks like there's 2mm in it. 15mm F20, 17mm Vault. Not enough that I'd notice the difference.

More importantly, the Hopes are a lot beefier around the outer edges, look how thin the Vaults look in the areas where they'll take rock strikes.

I've had them on my bike for >12 months. No previous experience of flats, but have 20+ years on SPDs, and was therefore apprehensive about the move to flats (would there be sufficient grip etc?). I'm totally satisfied - I wear 5.10s and the grip is great with the original pins, although I will try the hollow ones soon for comparison. Lots of rock strikes without issue - they are very robust.

Obviously I can't compare with Vaults etc, but I am very happy with the Hope pedals, and my riding confidence has actually stepped up a couple of notches as a result of the move to flats.

Had mine for 18 months now , 2 alps trips and many miles in they are still working beautifully, with the standard pins.I would have another pair if I ever need to replace them.

I have the hope F20s (third set for different bikes). Very good indeed ....had nukeproof electrons beforehand but they are lethal to the shins and too grippy.

I use my F20s with the standard pins, I'll try removing my middle pins although don't have any issues with grip on these as long as I have my feet dipped. The OH has DMR vaults super lights. Cracking looking and feel good underfoot but not quite so bombproof, they need a bit of loving tbh.

Sold mine, not as much grip as I'd have liked.

Now on nuke proof plastic things, whatever they're called. Mucho happy

bearings gone on one of my vaults, need a replacement.

are folks really paying >£100 for pedals? where have you seen the best price for F20's lately?

Evans have Vaults on offer £66.

I didn't pay anywhere near full-rrp for my F20s, but that was through my LBS who I have quite a good relationship with. Now I've gotten to try them I wouldn't hesitate again, but the rrp was a little off-putting considering I'd been mostly happu with Nanos before.

Looks like Evans sold them £66ers, probably a dodgy colour... Bliss bikes have em for £72
