Ye Gods. I counted 36 in the SS thread! and she mentioned 15 more!!! And that's just SS bikes!!!!

That's over 50 SS's! And I'm sure she's owned many more.

Crazy. I don't expect anyone to beat her total, but how many have you owned?

Me? 16, so far, as an adult, in the last 20 years. Only about 3 or 4 throughout my childhood.

In my defence, I haven't had many geared bikes 😉 and I only have two bikes at the mo (and the lil red 'bred which is crankless so doesn't count)

OK, just totted them all up the the grand total is 70 since 1991 when I started MTBing [img] [/img]. I just love trying new set-ups and minimal spare cash means that to try something new the old stuff has to go the way of the big 'E', hence the fast turnover.

So, that's 3 bikes, then really?

70!!!!

But don't you just want to meet Mamadirt? I do, and give her a big hug, too! I bet she's lovely.

Mad as a lorry, mind, but lovely!

15 bikes since 1995, and I thought I was bad. That's with a few years in those 13 where I barely rode for whatever reason, so in reality I'm averaging more than one new bike per year!

Mamadirt takes the prize for sure though, she has to. Have you seen a shrink about this obsession? 😉

There's no cure 😉

Az, you'll be disappointed 😉 I'm pretty quiet as I'm sure folks on here who've met me will confirm.

Depends whether you count "Trigger's Brooms" - I reckon that adds at least 3 to my total. If a new frame with bits transferred counts as a new bike, then 15 since my first proper bike - though I still own 9 of those (2 in bits, but could be built up) 😀

'minimal spare cash means that to try something new the old stuff has to go'

Assuming you lose only £100 when you sell something that you've used, you've lost £7000 over the years, that could buy you 2 really nice bikes!

Fair play to you, that's proper mental!

I've had about 15 since the 1999.

But I have got 2 really nice bikes 😉 and had a hell of a lotta fun on the way 😀

I never make any money on my sales - I'm generally happy to get half what I paid for a frame new and yes, I guess it's difficult to justify what I've 'lost' over the years but I don't see it that way. I'm happy to pay for the privilage of trying something new for a while then sell it on to help fund the next project - beats handbags and shoes any day 😆

I think it is like birthdys, stop counting after it reaches a certain number, frame number X ordered this week. Still it is good to have interests 😀

8 bikes since 1992.
Sold one (Old Marin Palisades)
Built a bob jackson racer, but swapped it for a Orange Clockwork (still in service).
Bought a custom 853 framed MTB made by a guy callet clarke I think, but sold it to fund my bestest bargain ever...a vitamin T with full XT for £600!
Had one stolen (my beloved Vitamin T).
Then bought a Merlin Rocklobster, still in regular use.
Then added a Stumpjumper FSR in 2005 (still in use).
More recently added a road bike to the list.

I think thats pretty restrained...8 bikes, four of which I still use.

here goes
started out with a 3 wheeler,
then a raleigh with rod brakes and a detachable cross bar
then (and still my best christmas pressie ever)a red raleigh choppermkII
then a 6 speedhalfords road bike (too tall by then for a BMX)
then an 18 speed apollo which as way too big for me, last 3 months until i got
a raleigh peak (couldn't afford a summit which had RS1s on it 🙁 )
a no name polished jump frame fromwheelbase
then a giant atx 990 frame for my wedding pressie to myself, but it was awful,so changed it for a
marin east peak
then got a 97 orange P7
[img] [/img]
then a jackflash
[img] [/img]
a handjob
[img] [/img]
which i busted
[img] [/img]
and got a replacement handjob off silverfish
[img] [/img]
then got an enduro
[img] [/img]
a kona unit
[img] [/img]
a lemond zurich 853
[img] [/img]
a P.A.
[img] [/img]
a giant ocr
[img] [/img]
an orange 5
[img] [/img]
a roadrat
[img] [/img]
uncle john
[img] [/img]
dibb's cotic soul stayed with me briefly
the wanga
[img] [/img]
fuel ex
[img] [/img]
trek 1.5 (now with stem length and height sorted)
[img] [/img]

i think that's all 25 i think, just left with P.A.,Wanga,Fuel and 1.5 + lemond frame (for sale, make a good fixie!) and the P7 frame and forks

Hi fives RD. Good effort 😉 Glaring omission though . . . you're never too tall for a BMX (yeah, I know that's easy for me to say). I seem to remember you babysitting a nice little green Haro and posting it on here a good few years ago.

FFS, I asked how many bikes you've had, not to post bloody pics of all of them. You've already done that on the other thread.

So the answer seems to be no-one has beaten Mama!

Started back into it in 1995.

Started out slowly, only 2 bikes from 1989 (starting mtb riding) to 1995. Since then I've had:

5 bmxs
5 jump bikes
6 hardtail xc bikes
7 dh bikes
4 road bikes

Making a total of 29. Now down to 1 of each type, which I think is OK (until I see something shiny and cheap...)

I guess 8 since 97 if you count transferring bits from frame to frame.

97 GT Timberline - Got nicked

99(I think) Cannondale Super V loved that bike - Got nicked

2001 Kona Roast - Recently rebuilt good fun

c2003 Custom built Revel 4X frame - Sold full bike as never used it

99 GT Zaskar (from ebay) got me back into riding great bike but too large a frame - Brother now has it.

2006 DMR Switchback frame built up with bits from zaskar - Dad now has the frame

2005 Spech Enduro M (from ebay) great frame got me riding harder and faster again but was too small. - Sold on ebay

2006 Spech Enduro L (from ebay) just starting to get used to the larger size and am fine tuning the ride trying to find the weight spring for the back but so far so good.

Get a bike that you want, alter it to suit, enjoy it...

🙄 The classic closed minded statement.

Perhaps we can't afford to buy the bikes we'd like to try, Perhaps we're searching for that special something, the X-factor thats makes a bike truly exceptional. How do you know if a bike has it until you try it?

Perhaps for some of us it's more like "know what you want, search for it and alter it until perfect, then truly enjoy it.

I'm there with the Mojo and the Airborne (well almost with the airborne - Need some Marta SLs)

do you people ride bikes

I've ridden 150 miles in the last 6 days. 8)

I dont normally reply but: I'm all for people seeking out their ideal. Or trying other bikes to see if thats what they like/want.
You appear to agree with me that you have found a bike you like, and probably tinker with it, like I do wih mine.
(30+sat off road, 105 sun, miles that is (no willy waveing!)

To be fair I worked in a bike shop that bought and sold S/H bikes for a fair few years and just couldn't say no to a bargain. most of them I eventually sold on for more than I paid. Back then I rode a stupid amount.

Colnago kid, Who cares how far you rode, did you enjoy it? Coz that's all that matters ot me.

LOL! Erm yeah... I do ride bikes:

*willy's out*

150 miles in the last 3 days (including 40miles this evening in the dark/hail/rain/wind @ av. 19.5mph). Oh, and then there was the 41 paid-for cycling events in the previous calendar year which include (without going into specifics) MTB races/enduros, road races, open time-trials, a rubbish sportive and a whole season of cyclo-cross.

So yeah.

Love bikes. Love riding and racing them.

:O)

I'm kinda in agreement with colnagokid, quality and not quantity, though saying that I have had at least one a year since '89.
That's 'reasonable' isn't it?
