Waterproof shorts that aren't big flappy mtb ones. What's out there? I don't need them to accommodate pads as they'll be for XC or gravel rides. Tried cut down army surplus gore-tex which are great on the mtb but not cut properly for long gravel pedalling.

Madison own brand make some stretch waterproof shorts.

Which unless you have chicken legs and a massive waist .....won't flap about....

Another vote for Madison, not flappy at all. Had a pair for a few years now and they're still fully waterproof. They even look ok.

I guess it depends on leg size but my 7mesh aren't flappy. Expensive but on year 3 and still as good as new while every other pair hasn't lasted out a second winter.

the DTE ones?, I' e got those, they are "over the knee" and exactly what I don't want. I wear sprayproof knee warmers and waterproof socks so only need waist to above knee waterproofness. those madison ones really annoy me when prolonged pedalling

I guess on the short of leg that could be an issue. Not one I have.

Back to the drawing board then.

I did have altura ones that didn't go over the knee. But they probably have not made those for 15 years.

I still have a surviving* pair of Tenn shorts that are as desired. Shame they're no longer available.

* Ironic as they were warranty replacements for the warranty replacements for the pair I orginally bought.

Could be worth a look?

Not tried them but I like my Morvelo RAD shorts and they aren’t flappy so if the cut is similar these may suit

Your right. But they are a terrible pair of shorts.

I bought them when they were being knocked out cheap to replace the alturas that died (wore the arse clean out) the waist band is one of the worst I've ever had the misfortune to use. Either have it tied so tight it cuts you in half or have it falling down once mud and wet gets in about.

I replace with the Madison shorts -the ones I have are the "Flo" don't look as long as the dte

Yes they are marketed as women's shorts but they fit proper and ain't noticeably women like in any way.

One of the many benefits of shopping in store 🙁

I just got a pair of Madison DTEs half price. After trying then on I had to check I hadn't ordered either large or 3/4 by mistake. I am on the short of leg size but they were ridiculous. I bought a pair of the flux shorts at the same time which were ok in comparison.

The Polaris ones aren’t flappy:

Flipping fantastic short (great replacement for mighty Altura Attacks) but they stopped selling that (linked to) 2 layer version after one season and now only sell DWR coated material, which 'repels' water but doesn't suggest it's waterproof. I use braces with all my MTB shorts, as the (built in) belts are always shite.

That's not true.

Some are ,... But I had alturas that were fine and I have Madison ones that are fine.

But the Polaris one is especially shite.
