What is it like? I have heard that is basically just a roll down some firetracks. Is it more exciting and will I need more than a fully rigid SS?

you will need more than a fully rigid SS for sure!
Its a great day out and there are a huge number of other trails in the immediate vicinty which would be more comfortable with some travel in reserve!
