I've managed to ding two sets of DT Swiss Ex511 rims to the point that they struggled to seat a tyre. After encouraging them back to shape, they seem OK for now, but wondering about another set (one is none boost at the front, run with adaptors, so this is also an excuse for an upgrade).

Given my appareny agricultural line choices, limited skill and general heft, would carbon be mad? I don't want these to be too heavy, so I guess that bumps the budget up?
Any brands to look at/avoid? How do Silt stack up against Hunt in terms of quality and customer service?
IMHO you can't get much better than EX511 rims, so I'd be looking at trying tyre inserts if you don't use them. What tyres do you use?

I've had inserts on the rear (old huck norris ones) but maybe need to upgrade!

Tyre wise, it's a mix through the year but generally dhf and dhr2. Sometimes an assegai. Sometimes something distinctly light weight and xc orientated. TBF, I think the dings were isolated rock/rim impacts, one being at Antur a few weeks ago.
You could go up a dt swiss rim to an FR560 - or it looks like they have a new replacement - zFR541.
They’re not light but they are strong.
Otherwise perhaps get some heavier casing tyres on there - and /or something like a cushcore or rimpact Pro insert.
I’ve been happy with my wheels from Neil at Moonglu and there are a few newer DT Swiss rim options that look to be even stronger, designed for e-bikes, than the EX511 you’ve dinged
I'd replace with the same rim and fit a pair of Rimpact inserts. I'm a big fan of them since I fitted some. I really like the feel and I rarely suffer from rim strikes anymore.
Thanks all. Replacement rims it is!
What width tyres are you running?
DT511/471 are pretty bombproof, so maybe better line choice?? Hunt are soft and won't stand up to anywhere near the same abuse.
Get Rimpact Pro inserts.
Don't get carbon if you;re trashing EX511s.
more air in your tyres
Sometimes the most obvious answer is just staring you in the face.
more air in your tyres
That's a point. Loads of people on here claiming to run sub 20psi. I can't imagine how they get away with it. Even if you don't rip your tyres off it must feel horrible.
I can get away with 18 front / 20 rear if it’s slow speed slithering round in the mud on tech stuff. For everything else I usually run 23psi at both ends. But I don’t think I’m hitting stuff as hard as others on here - most of the time XM481’s are ok for me. Just perhaps the rear one in 29er is struggling slightly with going out of true from time to time. Should have gone EX511 on the rear I think.
