Heading up from Bristol to Dumfries with my son. The plan is to do some of the 7 stanes trails while we are up there and a trail centre on the way up and down to break the driving.

Points awarded being close to the M6 and having somewhere to eat. Ideally 2 hours riding and technical / flowy Reds.

Options seems to be Cannock Chase, Grizedale & Gisburn. Which would people choose?

Cannock chase is fine but gets really busy at the weekend and can be a bit dodgy.

Winlatter can also be busy but is great for a blast.

Grizedale is ok too.

There is also a load of natural stuff not far from the motorway. I started this thread asking for something similar last year.

Looking at ones for the way up rather than while I'm in Dumfries (Mabie Ae).

Whinlatter could be an option.

Not by much, if I'd driven that far, I'd be up for going a touch further to ride somewhere decent.

Gnar bike park? Never been, but it's very convenient for the M6, though closer to the end of the journey than the middle. Lee Quarry is about 40 minutes from the motorway but you make a bit of that back since you rejoin about 30 minutes further along the M6

Yeah but OP wants "a trail centre on the way up and down to break the driving" so no.

Whinlatter is close ish to the m6.

Other than that I'd say just do green quarter from stavely

If you're happy to throw in some of the non-TC trails then I'd go to Grizedale - I can share a decent route if that helps or there are a couple on the flattyres website. Otherwise I'd rate them as Whinlatter > Gisburn > Cannock, though I've never done the stile cop bits at Cannock. If you do Cannock you also risk getting stuck in traffic on the M6 post-ride whereas it should be reasonably free-flowing after Gisburn or the Lakes options.
