[Closed] Which Thule axle for my Shimano 12x142 rear hub

Hoping I can get some help here from the collective wisdom of STW. I have a 2015 Transition Bandit with a 12x142 rear axle. I want to be able to tow our Thule trailer behind my mountain bike. Handily, Thule offer a bunch of axles for just such a purpose. However, I am having trouble figuring out which one is the right fit for my bike (I am not near my bike for a couple of days).

I think this is the axle.

On the Rose site there are 3 Shimano options

here

170mm, 159 or 165 mm, 172 or 178 mm.

On the thule site there are 5 options total, none of which stipulate Shimano, but judging from their user guide, I only need to know the overall length of my axle. (Having said that, it's not obvious to me how one should map from part number in the user guide to shopping item on the drop down menu...)

Slightly random question, I admit, and Rose/Thule should be of more help than the STW hive, but I've tried them and I'm still stuck...

Many thanks for any insight.

I know little about thru axles, except that I believe the axle you need only depends on the frame not the hub.

So this is a bump in case anyone knows what axle your Transition needs.

Looks like your frame has a Shimano axle so that means you need 1.5" thread pitch.

SRAM Maxle is 1.75"

Checking properly:
Unless you can find out the length of the axle in your frame, you will need to remove it and then measure the overall length then that will tell you which "Shimano" option you require.

The guide in that link above is pretty clear, it just requires you to have the axle to measure it.

Taking a gamble / knowledge on the subject

Going by Rose bikes description, you will need the 170mm version (2nd option down on the list).

I know of some Boost frames using a 175mm axle so 170mm makes sense for 142mm.

Shimano 170 mm E-Tru axle adapter
• Suitable for bikes with 12 mm Shimano E-Thru system (142 mm axle)
• Minimum-maximum length: 170 mm
• Total length: 190 mm
• Thread, thread pitch: M12 x 1,5
• Fixation: bolt
Manufacturer's ref.: 20100766

Thanks for the help guys.

I was leaning towards the 170 mm option, and this has given me the extra confidence to go ahead and spring for it.

I guess the worst case scenario is that I order the wrong part and have the faff of sending it back. Very much a first world problem.
