Which cables & outers are best for full enclosed outer routing to mech's??
I won't say they're the best, as I haven't tried all options, but I spent the extra on a full set of Gore cables and I haven't looked back. They're a bit fiddly to install, and they're not especially cheap, but I haven't had to touch them in 18 months.

Any gear inner and outer but stick a Middleburn cable oiler in the middle so you can flush out any crap that gets in
I stick with the Shimano XT stuff, fairly cheap and seems to work as well as the expensive ones I've tried. At the price of it it's no hardship to replace (and you can buy the outer by the metre from CRC which is good for full outers).
