Afternoon all,
i'm in the market for a garmin but have no idea which to buy!
I've seen the 305 and the 500 relatively cheap, the 800 is quite expensive and the 605/705 have the mapping facility which i quite like the sound of.
To what extent do people use the mapping facility, or do people just generally use the the garmin connect as a download to see where they have been?
ALso, does the connectivity improve on the newer models? On the Geko i;m using at the moment, when you download to connect, it seems to have lost signal and the full route has got split into 3 or 4 different section, which i can;t seem to combine in garmin connect?
I've been using a garmin geko for a few months as a temporary measure and i'm getting quite into the route logging and looking at elevations, averages, etc. I'm not sure i'm quite into heart rates yet, but a potential would be nice.
Just wondered on everyone elses experiences on what they use and what models they along with the pros and cons of each?
605/705 mapping only good for roads.
800 + os maps is what is required off road navigation.
for just monitoring training, recording routes 310xt forerunner is good as waterproof, light, can use on turbo and can run/swim with it.
You will know whether you get lost a lot - that's when you'll want the mapping option.
I use 310 for training and it works well. Satmap for off road navigation. The 800 should do everything, although have not used it and screen appears a bit small.
I would say that the 705 (the model I had before my 800) was great - very robust and survived 2 washes in the washing machine - and the vector maps and screen very readable. I do like my 800 but not sure it was worth the upgrade really esp with cracked screens 🙂
