For nephew in France - Recommendations please... French Decathalon own brands any good? or should he stick to a specialized hotrock or something similar. thanks!!!

We got a Merida Dakar 24" secondhand for our tall 8 yr old, which he likes lots. It has better forks than the 24" Cube his cousin has.
