for cycling to work? And new to MTB?

Hardtail with lockout forks and a spare set of wheels for commuting on?

Then again I've done 40 miles on the BMX in the last week so who am I to talk about the correct tool for the job :s

One of the under a grand Mongooses has struck me as an ok deal + upgradeable in time with new forks, driveset etc.

Surely a Pitch Comp would be one of the best around at that kind of price?

Boardman FS comp - decent frame, if he gets into it he can upgrade the rear shock, then the forks, then the bling. £799, job's a good'un.

Giant Trance X5 or Anthem X3. Trance is better value, Anthem is lighter and probably better for a newbie in that sense.

I have just ordered a Trek FuelEX 6.5 today on Cycle Scheme for GBP 999.95 from JE James. Seems good spec for the price and rides very well.

Regards,
Matt.
