IPA to service a shock?! Would have thought something more petroleum based and less alcohol based would work better at removing oily deposits (being careful about seals etc obviously).

Fox recommend IPA for cleaning shocks etc.
I use it mainly for brake discs [rotors] etc.

May be special order - takes a couple of days and costs a couple of quid.
