Looking for a Chris King BB grease adaptor and seals for Hope BB. Hope
don't reply to my emails. Can't find either for sale anywhere (anywhere
means using bikepimp.co.uk).

Any suggestions? Don't say 'LBS', and don't say 'Phone Hope/Chris King'.

Ordered the Chris King grease tool from Aspire Velotech ($55.48 inc shipping), rather than 60 quid from bromley!

Still looking for hope BB seals.

Finally got a reply from Hope. They say, I should ask my local bike shop to get them for me?! Fantastic. How bloody useless. I think they've just talked themselves into a lost customer.

I think they've just talked themselves into a lost customer.

Why? they don't deal direct to Joe Public, so what they say is correct. If you'd rung as mentioned above, then you'd have been able to talk it through with them - they are exceedingly helpful on the phone.

Chatsworth: They don't deal to the public, and no online bike shop carries the seals. The 2 local bike shops I've spoken to, one doesn't carry Hope bits, one is looking into it. So far, it's taken days to get nowhere.

That's why. If I can't buy something online, forget it.

In fact, my point is, I can't buy the damn things anywhere. I can buy the bearings from many places, get them shipped next day. Why not the seals?

Still haven't got any seals. The one bike shop who might be able to get them still hasn't got back to me. So, we're looking at over a week of being unable to use my bottom bracket cos you can't buy the seals for love nor money.

So, in summary, no more purchases from Hope, as they are gits.

+1

Always found Hope to be very helpful. Perhaps you should tell them where you are and they'll tell you of a shop nearby that they do lots of trade with. Get the seals sent there and get the shop to then post them on to you.

Cheers

Michael: Hope don't sell direct to customers. I emailed them and asked. So how are you doing it?

Yes, my LBSs are a selection of useless, crap and far away. This doesn't help. Hence why I want to buy things online.

MidLifeCyclist: Hope aren't helpful at all by email. I don't want to phone them, I just want to buy what must be a 50p part. Surely the same people that answer the emails are the same people that answer the phone? Surely it's so much easier to give a considered answer by email rather than being put on the spot by phone?

This is madness. The amount of effort required to buy such a small part is turning out to be huge.

To be honest, I'm so ****ed off with the whole situation, I'm tempted to send the parts back to Hope with a 'stick these up your arse' letter.

The Shimano one is tightened by hand and you have to guess the torque, the CK one, I believe, allows you to use a torque wrench.

Agreed - I have emailed in the past and didn't get a reply.

I know you say that you don't want to phone them but it is the easiest way to resolve your problem.

Cheers

Through his LBS, as he said.

Scootash, all this bellyaching on here about Hope is unbelievable, just do what everyone else does, give Hope a call, send them your bottom bracket and within 2 days you are likely to get it returned not only with new seals but probably new bearings too and free of charge. Their customer service for customers who are able to speak is second to none, if you had gone one step further and visited them then they probably would've installed the BB in your frame too, best firm I have ever dealt with.

i dont mean the wee plastic thing on the non drive side (which imho should only be tightened by hand hence being plastic) but to install the actual cups and tighten them up

Yes, the Shimano BB tool fits and works, ditto the Park equivalent. CK would prefer you to use a socket-type tool, but you can use the Shimano one, no problem.
