I’d like to buy another bike but almost every one I’ve looked at is available in about one size only (and not mine) with the rest out of stock

what’s going on- reduce supply to maintain prices?

Too many 2022/3/4 bikes still selling through and your right at the transition over to 2025 stock.

That's the received wisdom - that brands have been holding back new bike launches to sell the old models first.

Not seen much talk of shortages though.

What kind of bike are you after? There are lots of good deals about still.

Noticed the same, especially with XL Santa Cruz or Specialized.

This is very ****ing pertinent. We ordered Reeksy2's new bike 2.5 weeks back and it still hasn't arrived in the bike shop even though  they said it would be a week. We're all going nuts waiting for it.

Sample size of one, but big discounts to be had on 2024 bikes if you do happen to find what you want in the right size.

I guess availability and prices even better if you want small or XL.

S perhaps but not XL. Everybody is getting bigger and fatter!

Yep, XL's are thin on the ground.

and fatter

Would be interesting how much an average trail bike/frame would weigh if there were versions for under and over 80kg riders. I'm not aware of any brand that uses thicker tubes or reinforcement or layup to do size specific load capacity and stiffness.

Smalls also seen thin on the ground. Been looking for my daughter and there is nothing good or even average.

Complete bike specs in general seem very poor to me these days.

Several of the major brands do it. Some of them have been doing it long enough that it's not even a thing anymore. It's just one factor that goes into the design spec.

I’m looking at XL ‘enduro’ or trying to anyway.

TBH the whole 'model year' thing has been a gun the bicycle industry holds to it's own head for several years now.

Bike shops either end up sold out of scarce stock before it's even landed in the country, or holding too much while punters hold out and wait for the inevitable winter discounts to come.

The boom and bust of the COVID bubble and the course corrections the bigger corporations have been able to make mean we'll having a year or two of demand exceeding supply and prices staying higher for longer as a result.

Start a "what bike" thread with a bit more about your requirements, and get some suggestions from the hivemind?
