Hi all, i have approx up to 250 to spend on a rear shock . I've had a tuned Rp23 (200 by 57 i think) for 18 months and well i have an itch to upgrade it for next spring.

I'd rather fit it and forget it , air over coil but those Öhlins looks tasty...

benefits of cane creek, fox, Öhlins, rock shox etc...? sorry i'm a little lost in the rear shock world.

Won't be Ohlins for £250 methinks 😉 I run a Db Inline but again, not for £250. Superb and all the adjustment you could possibly need.

Reckon you'll struggle to get much better for £250 tbh, unless you happen across a lucky bargain (I picked up a DBInline for £257 but I'm pretty sure they're all gone now).

Service/tune on your shock for that money.

£250 won't get you very far at all for something new.

You should be able to pick up a second hand Canecreek shock for that then you can set it up for your bike yourself rather than getting something like a better second hand fox or rockshox shock and custom tuned by a specialist.

I'd be looking for a used CCDB at that money.

I'm interested in this as I'm contemplating what to do with the RP2 on my Pitch - a custom tune or Vorsprung Corset and full service isn't that far off what a Monarch Plus RC3 can be had for, or maybe even stretch a bit more to a used DBInline (though I'm hearing a lot of reliability stories on those)...

Ok so perhaps I can stretch to more than £250 if it's worth it? I had
The rp23 tuned and it didn't seem to make a huge difference if I'm honest .

Get your current shock push tuned @ TF. Transformed my CTD.
All stock shocks are an average tune so, unless you go for something like a CCDB, you'll find it might not work better than what you've got.

My Avalanche tuned RP23 is a heap better than my old CCDB. It's tuned towards downhill performance & manages to be both plush & controlled. The only shock I've had that was close was my BOS vipr2

That said, I've got an elderly Push tuned Fox VanR that is very good indeed, and seems to be the ultimate fit & forget shock.

What did you want it to do? Biggest thing with suspension tuning is knowing what you want from it, otherwise you will just have lots of knobs to play with, this may also make you happy

Getting the RP23 PUSH'd (or Avalanche'd) would be my advice for the money. The RP23 is still a very fine shock.
