That basically.....seems like nothing around the £1000 - £1200 is in stock due to everyone and their dog buying up all the bikes during lockdown. My bike has got to the point where the components that need to be replaced have gotten as expensive as just buying a new bike (man maths)

Was in a bike shop the other day. Some guy picking up a Scott roadbike. The dealer was saying that is the last bike from Scott until the middle of August....!

I'm waiting on a bike that they originally said June 9th.should be here next week.

Mate ordered an ebike for commuting and that has a 10 week wait!

bought a new bike for my son yesterday, the bloke in the bike shop said they'd pretty much run out of new bikes now, and were waiting for the manufacturers to release 2021 stock, I guess that will happen in the next month or two.

@darthpunk what are you after as I've got a couple of bikes I might look to sell.

Stock wise, most manufacturers have run out of mid range and normal sized stuff and it probably won't change until the end of the summer / traditional model year roll over.

I've been working part-time in my LBS for the last coupe of months - assembling and boxing bikes. April was their busiest month ever - May was 50% more and some days we had 30 bikes going out the door, it was a bit mental at times. It's more back to normal now simply as most bikes are out of stock and new ones not due to August with 2021 models - there's also been a delay because of the China lockdown at the beginning of the year. Shortages of components too - even Madison are getting low on parts.

As others have said, August is about the earliest that 2021 models will be hitting the distributors, then a short while until the whole range is available. Last years stock has pretty much gone. Only the odd model in odd sizes would normally be available. And this isn’t a normal year.

Also factor in that China was in shutdown, where most bikes are manufactured, so there will be delays in the supply chain.

My LBS had sold everything they had except 2 Adventure e-bikes, a balance bike and 3 other little kids bikes. There are lots of other components they can’t get either. No 26” tyres at any of the distributors.

26” really is dead.

Is Europe the same now they're easing lockdown?

Wondered if we'd see a flood of 2020 bikes from European warehouses to fill the extra demand in the UK.

It's the same all over as they all come from Taiwan or China anyway.

Deliveries of Cube bikes are coming through as some are assembled in Germany, but still problems with component supply

There's 26 inch Maxxis and Conti tyres in Madison warehouse. There's even a smattering of Nutrak ones. What are you after?

I can live with Aug/Sept, time to save a little more towards a nicer frameset and build up over the winter in time for spring!

That's been the case since March, I posted about it at the time as I was out with someone from Madison

There was talk of just dropping 2020 bikes and moving to 2021

It’s ridiculous out there. I run a LBS and Getting hold of basics is proving difficult. Had a load of Polish bikes from Romet come through from MoreLarge and now on scraps from wherever I can grab them from.
Merida, Forme, Claud Butler, Lappierre all saying October, some September but I don’t believe that tbh.
Still over run with repairs so ticking over nicely but bike sales we’re down to scraps now.

So based on all the above I presume there will hardly been any 2020 discounted bikes?

But there will be loads of used 2020 bikes in Autumn/Winter when everyone has tried cycling and didn't like it after all (especially when raining and colder)

I posted up on here a few weeks ago looking for advice on a hybrid for a mate in the £700 - 800 price range. Of the various recommendations, there were none in stock anywhere (and god knows we tried!)

Everyone was saying it'll be August before there's anything back in stock.

There's going to be some absolute bargains to be had on ebay later this year of bikes that have been ridden twice then sat in the garage

And speaking of ebay... if you have a look on there now, bikes that you wouldn't have been able to give away (old 26" mountain bikes for example) are going for crazy money

There's an article on the BBC today about this very subject:

It's not going to get better soon based on what we're looking at right now across a range of suppliers and factories. Shimano availability and rising demand is making it all hard to predict at retail availability level. It's not the same across all price/parts levels but in some cases what was expected as Sept-Nov may go into late Dec or early 2021 arrival. It'll depend on which factories secured stock and when so ETAs will vary by brand. In short, if you see something that's good enough I'd buy it rather than hold out for another bike's ETA, unless that ETA is confirmed based on the product being on the water already (ie ~6 weeks out). The other option is pre-order and be prepared to wait to get the right bike ie like the brands needing parts, just have to get in the queue and hold your place.

I think this time you will get more people riding for longer as it seems we are still a long way from being back to normal. I think this is positive even though it will cost me as currently about to purchase new bike so dont expect any great deals. So I presume less bike shop closures and hopefully a growing industry.
