I've ordered some furniture on-line for a reasonable sum of money.
One item has an 8-12 week stock time (dont ask the misses was insistent they all matched) and the company has taken the money out straight away.

I remember hearing somewhere the company was meant to wait till they had the items ready to post before removing the money.

is this right ?

that is also what I recall hearing / reading (that they shouldn't take payment until they have allocated stock) but tbh don't know and for furniture, it could be fabrication time that is the 8-12 weeks (rather typical for a sofa, for example) so could be argued that the stock has been allocated, but they still need to build it up.

look up distance selling regs (someone will post a link in a minute, no doubt) that may cover it.

Ah... i've just been setting up a webshop for a local caving shop and have come across some of the new rules. basically, the shop is not allowed to hold you card details / payment where they can access it, so the rules now say that the payment has to come out at the time of order. bit of a pain in the arse. we are trying to find a way round it, but every idea i have come up with, RBS say is illegal.
