Did they get rid of all the Big hitters/characters leaving it to be terminally dull and then die a slow withering death?

Blimey. I seem to remember the "help my bikes gone wrong" threads used to be quite helpful and reasonably quickly replied to, but I don't think I have posted on there for five years.

[edit] good point kryton. Perhaps I will start a thread about my wife's new pink Cove Hooker. Nothing like a thread with endless possibilities of inuendo to bump up the post count. 😆

Seems to be much less moderation, and more freedom of speech. As said though, needs more bike content.

Are you talking 1st ban or the subsequent ones Kato? His rantings caused at least a dozen folk that I know to leave - even Mr S gave up in the end.

Met a lot of good guys over there, rode with many & even raced with a few but a lack of control allowed the Turveynator to post the inane rumblings of a madman. MDT contains a mixture of insanity and profoundness but is breathing it's last as most of it's contributors now exist over here under various pseudonyms.

To be fair what finished it off for me was when they redesigned the whole forum. Just didn't like it after that

Mike Davis leaving saw the start of BM's demise, imo. The Kidderminster Clown was, initially, amusing but turned into a very disturb(ing/ed) individual. The redesign, which locked out a large number of people, was the final nail for many. I still post but it's becoming less frequent which makes me a wee bit sad as there is/were some good people over there. 😐

Well, I managed two of those but have settled for a dog and two cats at the moment....

BM was the first forum I found IIRC and was Melvin Schmelvin for a short while. Was 42 (ginger lad that sent photos of his c0ck to women riders) on BM or here?

It appears to me there's enough former contributors on here to raise the proverbial Phoenix.

Dylan is currently serving his third ban, he never learns. The front page articles are pretty good and are arguably more frequent than STW's.

I have been wondering if all those "suffering" from STW's rule tightening may make an appearance over there.

Bike Radar is my other forum now, BM's just too quiet. It's a shame because I agree their nrews/articles are better than here, and I do like David Arthur.

It was the first bike forum I visited and like others it all sort of went downhill with the format change and when Mike left. The rides section was always handy. Even though Dylan was barking mad he was entertaining. Gravity pulling you uphill on your bike anyone? Ice bullets?

The ride section used to be good as were some of the ramblings. The news section is still good.

The redesign didn't help IMO, and it's never good to see an ego implosion result in a banning or a flouncing (Dylan and JohnG spring to mind as examples). At least the bans there are not permanent. Although at time some of the recent folk on here who where smited by the hammer of ban could be annoying it'd be nice to see them back. It's easy to deal with annoying by not reading......

Used to be a great laugh back in the day, lots of personalities, lots of arguments but people just used to forget and move on. Seems 'banter' is taken too seriously, and the current folk aren't intelligent enough to be amusing, they try but fail dismally. I actually blame some of the current users for it's demise as they are so dull.

But then you're part of the problem, aren't you. I seem to remember this conversation was had on BM itself, but no one really rose to the challenge.

At least 2 members sloped off becuase they fell out with each other, not the forum. Dylan and John G imploded and were banned / left respectively, Kato, Luke, Prince whats his name and a couple of others surfaced over the last few months and like yourself, stopped making the effort after 1-2 posts.

Not all of us are as gifted an talented as you in the world of comedy and trolling, like I said before, perhaps stop moaning and make and effort - if you can't be bothered to make an effort then you don't have the right to moan. :-p

FWIW, the reason STW survives over BM is volume. Thats could easily be addressed on BM, if people choose to.

Lol at chakaping - no, more so as we are allowed swearing and shouting, soft porn and generally unacceptable graphics 😀

The rules here stifle things somewhat.

And the odd conversation about bikes of course.

Used to post over there a far bit 6 or 7 years ago - never seen anyone commit "Forum Suicide" as much as Dylan, there was a lot of goading at the time too.

A pity to see it die, was once a good forum but they changed it too much/often.

Bmagic wiped the floor with this place for characters. Unfortunately this made it a little difficult when there was a disagreement as no one would back down.

This place wouldn't even get close to a mdt

I basically found the new layout and my inability to ride mountain bikes put paid to the enjoyment.

Fond memories of hobo style and I have friends from those days who will be friends forever

That thread was epic.

It was certainly full of 'characters', good and bad! There were fewer contributors than on here, and i guess when they went it was always gonna go downhill. Wonder what happened to Ti29er Tim **shudders**.

I have fond memories of all the forum rides I did though, and still thoroughly enjoy meeting up with the guys I met from there!

I led that very ride! 🙂 The BM guys loaned him a bike for the day, and he was very, very ill on it! Am still in touch with Numpty, top man. One of the funniest guys I know. Rubbish rider, but a really very funny guy!

Emily Green. Oh yes. Toe curling embarrassing and more than a little cruel. But fantastic, nonetheless. My first forum. The Chiltern first 1XV used to hang about on there. Dan (dirtyrider), Clubber, Kato were all prolific posters. Dylan was the head of the uber-nutters although I never tired of his "I've made a 69r and moved a 2mm headset spacer and removed 1psi from my tyre and I'm 55% faster' threads.

I wasted so much time on there. But it was fun while it lasted. Before mike it was Cullen and either he or Mike told me there was a bug where banned people could still post but no one but other banned people saw their posts or something like that. It was like them going cold turkey in a room full of addicts 😉

So the lack of posts/posters on BM is due to the banning of Dylan - I bet the powers-that-be didn't expect that result.

I liked Dylan, despite his rather bizarre theories about biking. I thought that some (not all) of his bannings were a tad unfair due to the amount of goading that he took. I sometimes wondered that if he and Mike S alternated with being allowed on the forum then that might calm matters (i.e. make it duller!) 😉

poor old BM! i had a good few thousand posts on there too - kept me going through my GCSEs and A-levels... then moved over here as it got more interesting.

dylan was a proper funny one, but i met him a couple of times, and was actually quite a decent bloke! i dunno if dirty carlos drifted over here too, but he seemed a real decent bloke too.

shame its gone to the dogs, but i guess i'm part of the reason.

like many here, BM was my 1st forum. I remember many of the characters and Alex and clubber at least that are now here.

It was hugely useful for me as I learned about bikes, but became increasingly purile and bitchy.

I remember having a massive 'dissussion' with some fool from the new forest who seemed to think it was the best riding in the UK and couldn't accept the possibility that it might not be, and a few other gems.

STW kind of drew me away if I'm honest, its just more grown up and bike related.

Er no, STWer's use different words to achieve the same thing.

STW is presented a different way due to the forum rules. I bet you a million dollars if the rules were relaxed they'd be pictures of Kylie, Jane 20 from Fareham and political arguments all over the place.

b) it's not gone the way of BM?
