I have a Giant Trance X and am finally planning to upgrade my wheels. Currently running Mavic Crossride wheels, with 19mm internal diameter. I was looking to go slightly wider. There are some good online deal on Hope Hoops.
Choices are:
Mavic EN521 Rims on Hope Pro2 Hubs (21 mm internal width)
Stans Flow Rims on Hope SP Pro2 Hubs (25 mm internal width)
Stans Crest on Hope Pro2 Hubs (21 mm internal width)
Cheapest option is the 1st option, with the Stans Flow/Straight Pull Hub option being about £35 more expensive. Mavic rims are a bit heavier than Flows and are not as wide. Everyone says the SP spokes are a pain to get hold of, which is slightly putting me off the Flows deal. I do read they are good rims though.
I mainly ride XC/normal mucking about on mountainbikes, but do some trips to more mountainous/hilly regions where it is rocky and occasionally put on fat tires, like High Roller II in 2.4. Front fork is 150mm, currently QR, but will be looking to convert that to 15mm in time. Not sure how that makes a difference, but throw it into the mix...
Does anyone think I should go lighter and go for a set of Crests instead?
Go to Winstanleysbikes.com and get Arch EX on Hope
Thanks. Is it worth waiting until the normal j bend spokes are in stock and buying the wider wheels? They are not hugely heavier.
arch ex is what you want. Wicked cycles are usually the cheapest.
Monkey, are there any disadvantages to getting a wider rim, (apart from a small weight penalty), rather than going for an Arch?
Mavic EN521's on Pro 2's are bombproof
