If I supply the rims and spokes. Roughly how much will a LBS charge me? I'm weighing up whether to newbie **** up a build and then take it to a shop or just take it to a shop.

Also- any recommended indie mechanics etc etc in the NWest who are renowned/good at building wheels?

Assuming you get the spoke lengths correct and there is no faffing about then I charge £36 per wheel for builds.

My default answer - Blazing Saddles. Built mine at xmas (they supplied rims and spokes though) for what I paid, considering the rims were ~£60 each I think I got a dead good deal. Perfectly built, not needed any attention in nearly 6 months pretty regular use... Would use again - no brainer...

2nd vote for Cycle fast in Halifax

He went out of his way to do one for me overnight last year when I had a pretzeled rear wheel and the 'Ard Rock Enduro the next day.

So that's three now for Cycle-Fast. Think he charges £20 a wheel. Bloody good egg.

Why not ask our ginger friend hora? He did a good build when he was at NWMTB

+1
He made up some H Plus Son Archetypes rims on hope hubs for me and they've been faultless.

Fracture clinic tomorrow to see how the clavicle is doing. The damage to my hip has exacerbated the previous impingement to the point I've had to triple my codeine intake just to get through the day, and I can only walk with a distinct hobble. I've now got a further referral to an orthopaedic clinic, as it looks like I can no longer put off a proper replacement. Bike's mended though, and you'll be pleased to hear the PX frame has been replaced with a Dedacciai.... should be with me by the weekend.

Drop them in at 18 Bikes next time you are in the Peak. They made a first class job of building my LB carbon rims onto existing hubs. Droped Abigales wheels in yesterday for a rebuild onto some spare rims after she trashed the rear wheel on her Chameleon on the Jolly gap in Greno. You wont be disappointed

I can thoroughly recommend Neil at Rebound Suspension in Horridge, on a par with the prices above and turned round a few builds for me asap with no problems.
