I seem to remember it's £40 odd, so if i buy something for £100 will i pay tax on £60 of it and is this 25%.

If it's labelled up as a value less that £40 will it be ok?

this is from the label right in front of me (form a bike part just imported!):

goods purchased into the EU witha a value over £18 for vat purposes and £135 for import duty purposes or goods imported from one provate person to another private person as a gift with a value over £40 are subjec to customs charges.

I imported a light valued at $330 and paid £10.52 import duty and £41.04 vat if it helps.
